They could still get HD for their Cable/TV provider to get some HD programming. Now if they were hooked up via composite(Red/White/Yellow), then yeah... at least getting them to Component would be a nice suggestion.

Wait he has a ps3.
All the people I talk to most of them say they want a bigger tv. None of them say They want 3d in the home. We need to get the average Joe interested in Blu-Ray and not 3d. So if they buy a bigger tv and it is 3d ready it is a plus.

Don't forget to suplly them with and hdmi cable. I am upgrading to Panasonic's 3dtv which supposedly is the #1 rated rv on the market last time i checked and since that comes with a blu-ray player, i may give it to someone that doesn't have one.

Many people don't want 3d. But from what I've read a few companies are very serious about pushing 3d and are trying to shift focus away from 2d hd. Sooner or later, they'll have no choice because 3d tv's will be the only tv's you can buy.

I don't see that happening for years if at all.. as far as only 3d TV's being available. Lots of improvement needs to happen to 3d before it is ever widely accepted in the consumer market, IMO.

Ya they get HD programming. HDMI would be a great start for them. Even my Directv guy didn't volunteer to give me HDMI cables with my new receiver I had to ask for it. So maybe the cable companies are cutting down their HDMI supplies for only people who are smart enough to ask.

I know that Comcast and Verizon Fios supply Hdmi cables and composite cables with all there HD cable boxes now with instructions on how to hook up correctly.

I'm all about HDMI, the less cables the better as far as I'm concerned. I always found it odd too that with Blu-Ray players they always come bundled with a composite cable.. not even component(at least none that I've bought), so it's like...people get this brand new BR to see what all the hype is about, and they take it home not knowing any better hook it up via Composite hookup and wonder why they don't see a difference.

That is one thing that has always irked me, and I know the same thing happened with Xbox 360 when it first came out, and possibly PS3 too... just baffling. At least give people the proper cables to get the most out of the product.

Do you mean 3d ready tv,s. Is there a tv out there that only plays 3d and not 2d?

I doubt that will happen. That would mean no 2d at all and we've barely scratched the surface with 3d.

The best way to help is to educate the ignorant. If someone has one or more 1080p HDTVs tell them they need 1080p content and the only way to get true 1080p content is BD. You wouldn't feed a Corvette 87 octane so don't feed a 1080 HDTV 480 content.

Sfmarine you should be quoting NathanDrakeFan he seams to think 3d tv,s only play 3d content. Where they actually play 2d and 3d.

I've been buying TOO MANY blu rays, so I'm doing my part. Almost 400 in 2.5 years!!

Plus I've gotten at least one friend and a family member in on the blu craze.

Good work oyboe we need to get friends and family on the blu craze. I just got my brother on the blu-ray band wagon and he is happier than a pig in. Blank (fill in the blank)

I personally have bought 500 in just over 2.5 years so I think I am doing more than my part as well.

You've got one awesome HT. I see you also have that Sony BD changer. I totally need to get that on my wish list. Make sure to update your collection as well.
