AFAIK all versions of Equilibrium on BD are cropped except for the Japanese version, which is in the film's OAR of 2.35:1. Right now there are only two ways to get Equilibrium in 1920 x 1080 and in its OAR: The Japanese BD and the Japanese HD DVD. These releases are identical except that the HD DVD contains a lossy DD+ track while the Japanese BD has a lossless track.

Live action is opened up. The CGI (the little that there is) is cropped. 1080p and DTS-MA. I know people bash it, but the PQ and AQ is very good. I paid $5 for mine 6 months ago, I'm pretty happy with it.

So, the Dutch and Japanese releases are in OAR. The Dutch release is approx. $42, has DTS MA 5.1 but no extras while the Japanese release is ~ $67, has DD TrueHD 5.1 and extras. $25 more is a bit much for extras. (shipping included in those costs)
Anyone know where either of these releases can be found for a cheaper price? Where did you get it from for $5? |

Did the production of this film have budget issues or anything like that? There were a couple of scenes that I can remember off the top of my head that just had blatantly horrible editing/cutting. I'm sure you guys already know what I'm talking about.
To be clear, I'm not trying to crap on this movie. I really enjoyed it a lot. There were some unintentional funny moments. My favorite being: "I'm not feeling! He's the one who's feeling!" |

The only issue is the fact that it's an Echo Bridge release. Who knows what the release will be like if From Dusk Till Dawn is any indication. I'm hoping it's at least decent, but if not, then I'll likely just get the Alliance release at some point even with the aspect ratio being wrong.

I'm not sure if the Dutch bd is region free or not, which would make or break the purchase for people stuck with region A. Also, like I said previously in this thread, I've seen the Equilibrium Japan bd go on sale before. I purchased mine during a sale at play-asia. I paid $35USD after all was said and done. It's the correct AR, has the extras, and what I personally believe to be better PQ than the Alliance release (pq opinion only there, not based on correct ar or not)...which I have watched as well. I'd love to think that Echo Bridge, with their inferioir pq, aq, and penchant for typos could even still...maybe, make this a great release....but, I sincerely have my doubts. Both of their recent releases in Best Buy of From Dusk Til Dawn and The Crow: City of Angels are utterly painful to look at...and listen to for that matter. For From Dusk Til Dawn, the Alliance release was superior...and that's saying something. For now, I guess wait and see since May 10 isnn't that far off...but in my honest opinion, keep an eye out for the Japanese bd on sale.
