I may just have to see if I can pick this up along with Tiny Giants tomorrow and cancel my Amazon orders. However the Best Buy website still has this listed as coming out on Tuesday the 7th. The website does say that Tiny Giants is available now.

The other documentary coming out is Wings 3D. I think this may have already been released as a Best Buy exclusive called Winged Planet 3D. It is also narrated by David Tennant. Since I already have that I am not going to chance it that these are totally different unless someone can confirm.

Yes, they had Planet Dinosaur in stock at the store, though I would check my local best buy website to see if it's in stock in your area. bestbuy.com

Picked this up today along with Tiny Giants. Neither was in the 3D section, but on an end cap with nature documentaries from BBC.

Cool! Atomik, if you can, post your thoughts on the movies and 3D. Thanks.

The 3D in Planet Dinosaur is fairly strong. There are some good pop outs of the dinosaur's heads, they stick right out of the screen. The program itself, however, if fairly typical of dino docs, and this is only one episode of what appears to be a longer series. I would have liked to have seen the whole series, but from what I could find out, this is the only one in 3D. The animation is pretty good also. The entire thing seems to be animated and not dinosaurs inserted into a real world, like Walking with Dinosaurs.

Thanks...looks like I'll pass on this one until I get through my queue.

I haven't watched Walking with Dinosaurs 3D yet (in queue). Heck, I haven't even watched Disney's Dinosaur yet...but I have been on the ride at WDW!

Thanks. John Hurt sounds like the narrator here. Yes, it's an entire BBC series but maybe they're testing this one out to see how it sells in the US>

I like documentaries, though the replay value of them isn't as good for me as a movie.

Thanks, I was one of the animators on this.

You are right that all the environments were created digitally and with matte paintings. The reason is that vegitation was very different then from what now. Grass didn't exist for instance.

Which is good because I always though it was weird that most other productions wouldn't even try to produce the plant life.

congrats on the work. Were there ever any plans for a follow up? The original Walking with Dinosaurs series had a number of spin-offs.

The 3D version is longer than any individual episode. It's comprised of some of the best segments from the series.

It'd be great if they did the whole series like this, but seems unlikely at this stage. The 3D version was produced as part of a pilot scheme for broadcast 3D that they have since abandoned. Unfortunately I think it was premature.

There were plans for a follow up which would have been about aliens. As in what alien creatures might look like under different planetary conditions (gravity, atmosphere, etc). Unfortunately it never happened. I had a great time working on this. Planet Dinosaur was made on a much smaller budget than Walking With Dinosaurs by a small team and I was very positively surprised by how well it turned out.

too bad that fell through.

I found Planet Dinosaur improved as the series went on, and there were definitely some standout moments, the scenes with Daspletosaurus and Chasmosaurus were spectacular, far more dramatic than anything I've seen with horned dinosaurs in previous series like WWD.

There was a preview for a movie called Enchanted Kingdom. It looks spectacular. The preview was not in 3D though.

so I gather that is coming out domestically - shame it had no US theatrical release - I have the Japanese 3D /Dolby Atmos blu-ray edition and it wipes the floor in terms of subject matter, photography, state of the art sound - spectacular is an understatement.

One would assume that it was coming out, but who knows when. I may have to order the Japanese release. It looked amazing.

Is this the Japanese region-free Screen shot 2015-04-09 at 6.04.21 PM.jpg directed by Patirick Morris?

Edit: This British feature is not even out in the UK yet! see Japanese version.
