The first 5-10 minutes are ok but the rest of the movie is atrocious, and i'm a huge Stallone fan.
The new movie dumps on this from a great height.

I can't help but think that if Judge Dredd had been created by Marvel, DC or another American comic company that it would have had a much larger fanbase and they would already have made a Dredd trilogy, animated series etc, etc.

+1. I'm a huge Stallone fan but this would have to be 7.99 before I even THINK about getting it ha

I very much disagree. This is a very entertaining film.

Any screencomparisons or such of the German BD versus this?

This would make a great candidate for a UHD release.

With Disney, we might get it by 2139...

Give or take a year or two.

Just watched this last night all the way through for the first time since seeing in the theater back in the day. I get why it was/is considered bad upon release, but I think it's really not that bad of movie at all. Entertaining as heck really...Stallone is Stallone as his 90's best...Rob Schneider has a few funny lines ("Mr I am the law!") but he's a bit of a nuisance for the most part as the sidekick. His casting was probably a product of the time as he was riding high off of his SNL fame back then. Wish this was a bit longer and more fleshed out, but still a fun movie to rewatch.

It was longer and “fleshed out”

Quote:
According to an interview with writer Steven E. de Souza for the Den Of Geek web site in December 2013, the original cut was rated NC-17 and had to be re-cut and resubmitted to the MPAA five times in order to get an R rating. This was before Sylvester Stallone and the studio tried to cut the movie even further to get PG-13 rating. For example, the scene where Rico kills news reporter Hammond and his wife was originally longer and it showed two of them getting hit by bullets in slow-mo. The scene where the ABC Warrior robot kills Judge Griffin by ripping his arms and legs off while Griffin screams was also deleted for these reasons. This scene was not to be shown onscreen but Danny Cannon wanted to make the movie more and more violent (just like original comic, which he was a fan of) despite the fact that the studio and Stallone wanted the movie to be PG-13 with more focus on humor. Probably the most infamous deleted sequence is one where Dredd fights and shoots clone Judges during the ending. This scene was deleted for unknown reasons and some promotional stills show parts of it, clones waking up and Dredd shooting one of them. There was also a magazine article about this deleted sequence. Some of the other parts of the movie got cut out as well by Stallone and studio.
Remember the time where Stallone had an R rated franchise and decided to make the third on a PG-13.
He shouldn’t be meddling with other people’s vision, even though he is a good director or writer himself.

My problem with the reboot was that it was basically The Raid in body armour (and I wasn't a fan of that movie either).

far truer to the original comic series though. to bad it didn't do well in the theater as i would have loved a sequel with Judge Death as the villian.

Yup, the production of Dredd went on for soo long (& looking at it I can't really see why), it should really have came out before The Raid. I prefer the Stallone version, it's a fun film, great production design, good action sequences & a fantastic score by Alan Silvestri.

I greatly admire Silvestri's work, but in this instance I've always wondered what the film would've been like had Jerry Goldsmith completed his score.

One of his cues made it into the trailer:

I never saw this before. I just blind bought it on Amazon, pretty cheap price. So I'll give it a shot.

USA Judge Dredd 1995

Say what you want but I really want this in 4k! Has there been any mention of this happening? I believe Disney owns the rights now. Seems like one of the 90s movies not moved over and hoping it happens before it doesn't.
