With that being said, the only DVD I have any particular attachment to is my FYE Exclusive Steelbook of Cloverfield. I love that thing, and I certainly wouldn't get rid of it, despite owning the film on Blu-Ray.
I hate giving anything to Best Buy for $5 if I know I paid way more than that for it. That's not "saving" in my opinion. So what I do is give them anything that cost me .50 cents to $4.

I have that steelbook too. What I did was buy some hubs from eBay or amazon and insert those hubs on the other side then I slap on the DVD and make my own combo, just in case someone in my household wants to see it (we only have one blu ray player and a few DVD players). Sometimes the hubs slide but once you get it on right they pretty much stay on.

There must be others, but the one that springs most immediately to mind is the two disc Escape from New York special edition. The Blu-ray is pretty bare bones, so that's a no-brainer.

But how many times do you watch all the extra features anyway, if at all?

I came into the movie collecting game late, 1st part of this year... I had at one point a decently sized (200+) DVD collection, but sold it off a few years ago when I had a little financial setback. That being said, I've only bought DVDs of movies that I (thought) would never see the light of day on BLU (Drop Dead Fred, Clownhouse, Sleepaway Camp, etc...) But still, regardless of what extra may be on the DVD, if they get released on Blu-ray, I'm upgrading... Not only do I absolutely LOVE the increase(no matter how incremental) in PQ & AQ (some movies it's like watching for the 1st time), I also love the uniformity of seeing all of my collection in one format, which seems to pretty much be the BEST format for years to come....

All of them. Eventually some might end up next to my VHS tapes, in boxes in the attic - but I just don't have the time to buy & watch them all again, every time a new support comes along...

If I upgrade I give the DVD to a charity shop, they're worth next nothing in trade anyway. However if extras have not been transferred over it will more likely stop me upgrading. Spider-Man is a good example of that. In the case of the Star Wars trilogy I kept the bonus discs and gave away the films. Something like LOTR which had great packing I still gave away, I care more about how the films look on my TV than how they look on the shelf. I grew out of that "collectors edition packing" BS years ago.

I just give the DVDs I dont want or need anymore to family or friends. My uncle now has a collection of over 1000 dvds and i bet half of those are from me. My brother has like 200 from me and a couple of my cousins have another couple hundered. I had around 2000 DVDs when I switched to blu and am glad to upgrade anything I like. I also sold like 400 to a Vintage Stock in my area when i started switching to blu and got like $500 in store credit and spent it during a buy 2 get 1 free sale and got like a few hundred blu's

For me it's The Return of the Jedi 2-Disc DVD. It's my favorite movie and I quite like that the Ewoks don't blink with cartoon eyelids.

Only a couple that have what I feel are a significant extra. I give away the dvd to Friends and Family, including most DVD's that come in Combo packs. Ditto any "digital Copy".

I would have kept those, but I decided against it since those Laserdisc transfers are not anamorphic and are riddled with dirt.

the way i looked @ it...it is the only way i could own the "original" movies w/o any of the alterations made to them w/o keeping the VHS tapes my parents have/had.

i don't want my kids growing up thinking Greedo shot 1st!!

and i want them to know what the "yub yub" song is.

I plan on keeping every DVD I ever bought. I see no point in selling them or giving them away. This means even my FS DVD's are staying with me.

I can't not understand how some people on here sell their dvd's and blu-ray's. I see not point in it. Sure you may not watch the movie now, but what about 2,4,6 years from now? You never know when your going to want to watch that movie again.

So far, I think I've only designated a handful of DVDs out of my remaining collection to be keepers.
1. Brazil Criterion, just way too nice packaging to dispose of, I'm still trying to figure out a way to incorporate the Blu into the packaging with a double case.
2. Citizen Kane, was one of the first nice DVDs I bought. and I paid quite a bit for it at that time, can't just toss it.
3. Suspiria, the 2-disc blue underground DVD is still considered to be the best PQ, even among the various other region Blu-rays.

I'm keeping this...

Even though I own this...

The main reason being that the version of Freddy's Dead has the 3D sequence on the DVD, but not on the Blu-ray. The sequence on the Blu-ray is in 2D.

&

Once I upgrade a movie to blu ray I usually get rid of the DVD one way or another. I see no purpose in keeping them and I will most likely never watch them again. I do not buy movies to collect I buy them to enjoy/use
