This is the exact reason I'm putting up such a fight . . . suggesting people are immature for buying movies when they're standing right in front of them? That's pretty ridiculous. The mature thought would be to buy the damn movie rather than wasting time and gas to go stand in the exact same place one day later to purchase the exact same thing.

300 is hardly the only WB title to have outsold its HD-DVD counterpart. It's a high point in a steady trend, which is all that matters.

Just about anyone wanting to see Blu win this week...I'd definitely pass it up if I knew my purchases would off-set even two purchases of Transformers for this week.

But Pro-B, you can't argue with BStecke, he's already made his mind up that what he's done doesn't effect anything and you won't change the fact that he's already bought stuff today. It's just funny that people around here are failing to realize that one person can make a difference.

every penny counts but would you rather pay $60 for 2 Blu-Ray discs or $30? or 2 blu-ray movies for $50 or $30? i would go with the $30 for both options. so if there is a movie that i want i waited for and is a part of the sale right now is the time to get it and any other you were holding back thats on sale right now. cant always be picky and plus if you want blu-ray to win this week then i say go for it

I don't think Sony and Disney will ever feel it is a disservice to have their products bought. Honestly, I believe they would always rather have the sale as earliest at possible and to have it build and sustain over time then have a lot of people hold off buying just so they can buy and try to cause a spike in 1 week just to offset the release of a big HD-DVD title.

The numbers always count, regardless of the week that they were bought as they are trying to grow and build a market. I think who wins the week of transformers matters more to the people here then to Sony/Disney.

Umm, then why didn't they do this some other week besides this week? Now I will give you that they had BOGO at Best Buy last week, but it was only on selected titles. It's just funny that Disney decided to put theirs on sell this week and it be for most of your major retail stores (on- and off-line), not just a certain store?

Understood and agreed with. What I wanted to point out is that Disney/Sony have given a tiny chance for the Blu camp to possibly fight off the Transformers giant. And wouldn't it be great if the response was what I think they expect from their supporters.

Regardless, at the end BStecke, you, I, and everyone else here desires one thing only and there is not reason to argue how it is achieved.

Good night,

Pro-B

And you think Disney expects people to know what day ratings start? We're having enough trouble getting people to even know what BD is, and now you expect people to follow ratings?

Agreed as well...I won't be listening to anymore responses on this thread. It's inevitable that no matter what is said both sides will not agree.

Goodnight.

I just think it's pretty shitty that people are being criticized and slapped on the wrist for buying discs at the "wrong time."

It seems that promotions come and go all the time. I do not know the specific program you mention as I live in Singapore at the moment and so far I have not ever seen any promotion here on either format

And maybe they do run a promotion to try to take aways sales from Transformers but they do not run a promotion to purposely have people delay their purchasing decisions to offset what ever spike HD-DVD has in one week.

So of course they would want to win every week, but I don't think they want to win at the expense pf by people delaying purchases.

Just a few thoughts on this subject.

Sure, they want their customers to have a dedication to their products. Look how well it works for Apple. But they also expect them to act as rational consumers and not to work collectively in order to try to change the ratings of sales for their products in any one week, especially if doing so is at the expense of buying a product earlier If they influence on this board was large enough to cause a big shift in the buying behavior, you would probably have the execs back at Sony wondering what they hell, why are the sales dropping.

If they want to try to offset what ever the sales outcome of Transformers, they can schedule a big release for the same time or run an unannounced sale around that time, etc.

But I don't think there is any chance that they would want their customers delaying purchases of products that they have on the shelf for a later date if they can make the sale now.

As I said, I think it matters more for the supports on this board and that other board that may want to debate the subject but in the end, Sony and Disney know quite well what is going on and their marketing teams should be able to handle the spin.

what they should want is for everybody to buy early and often and not delay purchases in a grassroots movement to try to fool the ratings as they know what the total sales are even if they lose 1 or 2 weeks.

i will buy mine on tuesday when people are gathering up in the hd-dvd section to get transformers i will have both of my hands full of blu-ray discs i am going to buy and since the blu-ray discs are next to the hd-dvd movies it makes it a lot more fun that way and then if they ask me why i am purchasing blu-ray movies i would say something like because blu-ray is the winning format and has been winning for almost a whole year now while hd-dvd cant even give away their players plus uncompressed sound in blu-ray sounds a heck lot better

It probably won't happen, but if it did, I agree, it would be an awsome victory. This truely is HD-DVDs final stand. They have nothing left after this.

I don't think these sales will make HD DVD lose the week. It will be a little closer than it would have been without them.

If I'm wrong I'll be glad eat a dish of crow and ask for seconds.

I just checked FRYS.com and they are sold out! Everything but The Replacement Killers is gone. Damn, there's going to be a lot of Blu-Rays sold this week.
