Really, really terrible! I urge you not to buy it - stick with the DVD for now, I'm afraid...

Hmm, I'd really like to get this, but I dont like spending that much on a boxset. Hopefully it might go down a bit or something, otherwise I'll have to bite the bullet and get it.

something like £70 would be really ideal.

I wouldn't call it horrible. Not great but read the review of the Criterion BD - it's not really that much better than this.

Anyway,

U.K. - 14 films at $10.89 each including shipping to the U.S. Not bad. Let's see if we get an announcement soon for the U.S. version.

German - 14 films at $12.40 each including shipping - BUT if NBNW & 39 Steps are included then $10.85 each.

I really hope that's not how the packaging will look. Why the hell do studios insist on these massive and impractical sets? Yes, they look good, until you want to take a disc out and break the spine of the "book" or worse still find the discs damaged because the tight "pages" are like sandpaper.
Why can't we just have slimline and protective disc cases in a compact box without the oversized, odd-shaped monstrosities they keep vomiting up?

Universal got it SO right with the UK redone box for Battlestar Galactica. THAT is what all blu-ray box sets should be like. Smartly designed and practical.

I agree, same with the original Heroes boxset, which sits nice and shiney on my shelf. This would look great had it had been all black, with various points in gloss, like his gold signature on the top and large Hitchock collection etc text on the sides. A black and white Profile photo or something similar on the sides and that be that. I know you couldn't fit 14 armarys in one of those, but a few larger ones with discs in them wouldn't be bad.

The rights to North by Northwest are owned by Warner, this is a Universal release.

This is the main reason why I don't like these kind of sets. Separate distribution rights means that you can never get the entire set of something like this in one complete package.

I already have North by Northwest and the UK set is much cheaper so that's fine by me.

Also I prefer the UK/Europe packaging on this one, usually I'd got for the normal sized packaging but this looks too classy.

I suspect that the US set will contain North by Northwest as a quid pro quo for Universal giving Warner Spartacus for their Kubrick set.

That wasn't completely appreciated by the UK buyers of the UK set. I guess we're not going to get North By Northwest. Did Germany get Spartacus in their Kubrick set?

Edit: They didn't get Spartacus.

I think the set looks frigging gorgoeus. The more birds the merrier.

Just take a look at the US version and rejoice with what we are getting. >.>
