I thought so. I distinctly remember weak 3D. I've pretty sold all my 3D movies with mild 3D (don't see the point of it) and I sold ParaNorman. The only Laika movie I have in 3D is Kubu (which has mild 3D) the reason being this was a superb movie and there is no 4K so this is the next best thing. The other Laika movies I have are in normal 1080p.

The 3-D in CORALINE is definitely not conservative, so I wouldn’t have expected that. KUBO’s 3-D isn’t as heavy as CORALINE but still pretty nice. Unfortunately, PARANORMAN’s 3-D is extremely disappointing in comparison.

I agree, ParaNorman has weak 3D but it's the only title I own from Laika.
I happen to like the story, the other movies I can't stand.

Can’t remotely relate to not liking CORALINE, what a great and imaginative flick, with wonderful use of 3-D.

I remember being more impressed with Paranorman’s 3D in theaters. A big enough screen can enhance shallow 3D. But on a TV it is certainly disappointing compared to Coraline or even The Boxtrolls.

I agree with everyone here on Paranorman having mild to weak 3D. Also, without calibrating your brightness and contrast, the default display is too dark on the night/dark scenes it's unwatchable.

But it's still my favorite Laika movie story-wise.

2112rushfan was just stating he likes the story of Paranorman over the others, and I agree. It's just preference.

Exactly this

BTW our LG C6 OLED is not a "broken setup". It displays all of our 3DS beautifully.

Never meant to imply you had a broken setup. You didn’t say the 3-D in Coraline was conservative, just that you didn’t like the film, which is indeed personal preference. I didn’t say “anyone who doesn’t like Coraline has a broken setup.” I think people need to reread what I wrote.

Agreed on preference — I was responding to the assertion that if it’s from Laika we can expect underwhelming 3-D, thus we could naturally expect the 3-D in Paranorman to be tepid, which doesn’t compute because Laika’s first release, Coraline, has quite strong 3-D. And I also agree that Paranorman’s story is great.

I'm probably in the minority here since no one checked it as a fav Laika film. But The Boxtrolls is my favorite. Loved Coroline. Liked Paranorman but it was my least favorite.

ParaNorman is getting a remastered 3D version off the heels of the success of Coraline's remaster and will show in worldwide cinemas around Halloween.

It will be a Fathom Event in the US just like Coraline was.

I imagine Trafalgar (or even Anime Ltd!) will do it in the UK.

Either way, I'll snag the tickets as soon as they're announced.

The re-issue will also include a brand-new short feature

Quote:
Laika’s beloved stop-motion film “ParaNorman” is returning to theaters this Halloween for a one-week engagement, now in a newly remastered RealD 3D format. The limited run, announced at the Annecy Animation Festival, will also feature the world premiere of a brand-new CG short film, “ParaNorman: The Thrifting,” starring Anna Kendrick and Finn Wolfhard.

“ParaNorman,” originally released in 2012, was nominated for an Oscar, BAFTA and Golden Globe, and took home multiple Annie Awards. Directed by Chris Butler and Sam Fell, the film will screen globally starting Oct. 23 through Trafalgar Releasing, and in the U.S. from Oct. 25 via Fathom Entertainment.

“ParaNorman was a breakthrough film for Laika – emotionally rich, visually daring and proudly weird in all the right ways,” said David Burke, Laika’s chief marketing and operations officer. “Bringing it back to theaters in stunning remastered 3D, paired with a brand-new short film, is an invitation for audiences to rediscover the heart and humor of Norman’s world – or experience it for the first time.”

The accompanying short, directed by Thibault LeClercq and written by Butler, was produced in partnership with Passion Pictures. Kendrick reprises her role as Norman’s older sister Courtney Babcock, joined by “Stranger Things” star Wolfhard.

Fathom CEO Ray Nutt noted, “Coraline consumers voted with their wallets last year, resulting in approximately 70% of the record-breaking $34 million+ U.S. theatrical box office coming in 3D. ‘ParaNorman’ is the ideal, spooky follow-up for audiences.”

If the 3D is better (not so flat) I'm interested.

I’ve never seen a Laika movie that didn’t look absolutely amazing in 3D

I have. ParaNorman. One of the weakest native 3-D films there is, right down there with The Pirates! In An Adventure with Scientists!, and Tron: Legacy. Super disappointing on the 3-D front, and what a shame, because it’s a great movie.

The 3D Blu-ray really is too mild. But I love the movie and I’d gladly see it on the big screen again, which will make the 3D stronger.
