ask the manager why they dont stock your prefered product, if they are like Asda(who are owned by wal*mart) then they will get it in.

Seeing the same thing at my local Wallymart. No new HD titles and a lot more BD releases. The sections a mess and everything was everywhere but it looks like it's the stance W*lmart's taking in Canada, anyhow. Nice to see.

I'll try the walmart, as well a the target and the price club near me.
But I might not be able to until next week.

I hope this is true everywhere.

So I happened to stop in to Hell-on-Earth... er, ah... Wal-Mart the other night to pick up some odd's 'n ends and I decided to make a pit-stop into the electronics dept. Well, my-oh-my what a surprise! Now normaly, the Wal-Mart across from where I work (and most others I've been to in and around Vancouver) have had the same, pathetic looking Blu-ray display shared with HD-DVD. Usually four rows of BD, filed spine out and two rows of HD-DVD... filed the same way.

Not today.

Today, as I entered the section, I was immediatly greeted by a large square display, smothered in Blu propaganda and Sony LCD's and stocked (or very soon to be) with Blu-ray titles. It seems that this was a work in progress as most of the shelf space was empty and there were lots of unopened boxes scattered about the floor space around it.

Here's the best (though probably most unethical) part of it all. I started to scan the surrounding area for any sign of HD-DVD... looking... looking...

AH-HA! there they are... ON THE BACKSIDE OF THE BLU-RAY DISPLAY!

This display is SMOTHERED in Blu-ray... from facts about the format to logos... hell it's even topped off by a nice looking laser-cut metal sign at the top of each side that says "Beyond Hi-Definition".

Now it would seem to me that the staff needed someplace to dump the HD-DVD's they hadleft and found the ass-end of the display to be the best area. I took a chance and asked one of the staff puttering around the floor if he knew what was going on with thier HD-DVD stock. His reply... "I dunno. We're not getting them in anymore. Didn't even get Transformers. We're only supposed to stock the other one now" "The other one" I asked him. "You mean Blu-ray?"

"Yeah. We're only carrying Blu-ray"

Huh. Interesting. Blu only and no Transformers on HD-DVD. Suddenly Hell-on-Earth just got a little better.

That doesn't really suprise me at all. Most of the people I talk to here in Vancouver know about both formats and by far the majority prefer Blu-ray. Futureshop has always had more Blu-rays than HD-DVDs... for more than 6 months now.

My Walmart has 4 Shleves 2.5 Blu and 1.5 red. Thats in woodbridge Canada. It used to sell a Pioneer Blu ray player but it pulled it for some reason.

They've had an island up for blu-ray in front of electronics for over a month at my walmart and selling lots of the S300's.

They only have a few HDDVDs now and have stopped restocking them. They carry a lot of Blu-rays though. Most 'popular' titles.

Considering they don't carry any Toshiba CE products (they only carry laptops) I would be very surprised if HDDVD gained anything in Walmart.

Walmart isn't the type to make proactive press releases on such things. Instead they will answer very briefly to press inquiries or react to their name in the media. Even if they went exclusively Blu, dont' expect a huge release about it.

They have been saying consistently throughout all their releases concerning the subject that they intend to only support one of the two HD formats by Jan. 2008. That's as long as they intend to wait in this 'war' apparently. Hence, why I keep saying that this holiday will decide it and by next year things are going to start changing fast to try and get adoption rates way up so everyone (except Toshiba) makes more money.

Wish I had a wonderful wal-mart story to tell. My local wal-mart seems to have removed the three or four blu-rays they had for sale (stored undisplayed in the bottom of a PS3 cabinet). No nice display in the works either. We'z here in Peoria don't know what to think of them purdy blue disks. Hell, they still choose to carry full screen format only whenever given the choice.

Maybe tonight I'll check one of the other many many wal-marts in my area to see what they are doing.

My Supercenter Walmart only has one shelf of High Def movies. I will have to check if they carry any players. But on the shelf they only had seven movies! Five were Blu-Ray movies and two were HD DVD movies.

One of my two local Wal-Mart's here in Cross Lanes, West Virginia has this week dedicated an end cap in the DVD/music section to 'High Definition' (with big, blue signage incidently). Never counted how many rows (though I estimate probably 6-8) but it's definitely 70-75% in favor of Blu-ray! A couple of nicely priced movies too for only $18.96 (Bram Stoker's Dracula being one of them).
