Yeah, I don't get. I'm actually pissed off at myself for not liking it. Watching this movie was like being punk'd. I'm usually quite impressed with most old films between 1900-1950. But it's only been this one and The Rules of the Game that have had my head scratching of why they are so highly rated. I'm sure there's something to them once analyzed, but as entertainment value, I just don't get it.
I did not know that. Wanna buy this for 10 bucks (including shipping)? or anyone else? |

good film! bought it for $8 at one of their half off sales a little while back. was not disappointed. looks and feels like the 1940's Hollywood classic it is.
stunning PQ. this and Criterion's Persona have to be the 2 best B & W transfers I've seen. throw in the 30 minute bonus feature and this was major bang for the buck! |

I wonder if this will get a 4K restoration this year with the support of Scorsese's The Film Foundation. We know that Scorsese managed to get Disney to do three new restorations that premiered last year from either ABC or Fox's old library: Hitchcock's Spellbound (1945), Rebecca Of Sunnybrook Farm (1938) and Cavalcade (1933). The latter two films are by Fox.

Bumping this thread because I just got the film off Amazon. (I've been buying some Best Picture winners as of late in preparation for this year's Oscars) looks as though it's been reprinted by Mill Creek through that deal with Disney they announced in early 2023
![]() I admit that I didn't honestly expect it, and yes, despite having Mill Creek's logo on the packaging, it's the exact same disc as the original 2013 Fox release. Last edited by CampArgyll; 02-19-2024 at 07:31 AM. |
