Amazing that Maureen O'Hara has outlived so many of her co-stars, even the younger ones--John Candy, Natalie Wood (imdb says she's the ONLY person on the credits list of Miracle on 34th Street who's still alive). And still looking good. Great documentary on the DVD of the Quiet Man hosted by her.

Actually I liked him better in RIO GRANDE than either RED RIVER or SHE WORE A YELLOW RIBBON (or even FORT APACHE or THE SEARCHERS)... and Olive has a great-looking Blu-ray of RIO GRANDE that's just as good as Warner's Blu-ray of FORT APACHE. Lots of great Wayne titles on Blu-ray already, and I'm anxiously awaiting THE QUIET MAN, the best of his career.
I'm also really hoping Olive will bring to Blu-ray another severely underrated Wayne non-western for Republic, A MAN BETRAYED (1941), and this being election month would have been an ideal time to release it. |

Maureen O'Hara also does a nice commentary on the Legend Films release of "Miracle on 34th Street". Again, she may be the only surviving cast member. The Legend Films release has the black and white original but also the colorized version of the film on the DVD. I know lots of people don't like colorization but I actually prefer it and besides the b/w version is in the case as well. |

This comes out the same week as my birthday and I couldn't ask for a better present. The film won't disappoint me, of course, and I just hope the transfer is worthy of it.

I mean we are talking about an important classic film that has always looked like 100% dogsh%^t on dvd. this new bd is one of the best catalog releases in the history of the format imo. sure more extras would be great, but I mean gimme a break about being "disappointed" ![]() this film has now been rescued for eternity--simple as that. Olive deserves all the praise in the world imo. ![]() (If only they could do the same for Nashville) Last edited by Arkadin; 01-05-2013 at 01:23 PM. |

The only complaint I might raise is the registration problem in the first capture shown in the review tab. The Duke's hand is outlined in red, which indicates misalignment of the 3-strip Technicolor records. This is entirely correctable with todays technology. However, I still am buying this release. It's probably (based on screenshots) the best work Olive has done yet. ![]() |

All Olive releases have been single-layer so far, except for the lengthy films like 1900, and they typically have few or no extras. I too wish they'd use dual-layer discs and/or a higher bit rate on some of their releases (as well as porting over all DVD extras), but the overall results have been pretty solid, and in this case look to be spectacular. As for price, Import CDs is where most people here buy their Olive (and Kino discs) - they're all $15.69 shipped, plus they occasionally have sales and/or 10% coupons.
