No, I mean that cheap format that's even cheaper than dud and has Bollywood titles and Mel Gibson's stuff.

no, no, yes, yes, and yes. Blu-ray will win out. That much is for certain.
What does your drivel have to do with my post? Nothing. Why don't you go start another thread and talk to yourself?

Hey, stop pickin' on Laserdisc.....it's still my favorite format. It really is.

I feel dirty saying this but HD DVD will be around for a while. 190,000 copies of transformers only gives the HD DVD camp confidence and the movie studios that support HD DVD confidence. If the right movies are released, face it.... HD DVD WILL SELL!

I'd buy BD only, face it if there was indeed an indefinate stalemate, even of the studios held to the exclusivity setup they have now, I'd be ok with it, but in that given situation, most of the studio's would likely go neutral, if that happened, the BD sales would still out perform HD-DVD.

as for the Xbox 360 with built in HD-DVD it's too late for it to meaningfully effect the HD war, adding a HD-DVD drive would increase the cost and will they have resolve the failure rate of the 360 for this release of the 360? the PS3 still offers a better bang for your buck.

Oh that piece of trash? Worst case, if both sides of the HDM camp got screwed, I don't think the "Ross Perot" of high definition is going to ride in like the calvary and save the day.

The industry knows what is best, but HD DVD is milking the public all they can. Knowing full well, they can sell the movies again on BD.

If both formats are in danger of dying off, SOMEONE will have to cave. You see anyone in the BD camp doing that? Hell, out all the BD exclusive supporters I am most thankful for Disney. Family movies sell the best, and nearly everyone buys Disney.

In short, if Toshiba rather see both formats die rather than cave in, then they aren't a consumer sensitive company, and deserve to be black listed.

If both formats die and "go away", the only thing to save HDM will be to resurrect one. No one will buy into a new HD format after a double death. Once burned - twice shy.

Neutrality is not a good idea. Firstly, even if DVD went away completely next year and everyone went neutral, you think retailers want to carry two formats of EVERY movie?

As another person pointed out some time ago, if everyone goes neutral then the "Warner effect" could happen. (EX: 300). That is burn for HD DVD and convert for blu-ray. If the quality is the same then why not just buy HD DVD? Neutrality is like pulling the rug out from under blu-ray, and should not be tolerated.

The smart thing for the Studios to do is put peer pressure on Paramount / Dreamworks. Everyone is waiting for the Christmas season to see how it is going. If BD wins by a large enough margin, then Warner and hopefully Universal follows the lead and become BD exclusive.

Or, they are riding the coattails of the Paramount contract and will convert to BD after 12/08 to create peer pressure to follow suit. I say sooner than later.

I'll be very critical of any movies they release after the switch to not suffer "The Warner Effect". Remaster the entire film or you can keep it.

I think the way Toshiba is going, there is going to be a Buy a toaster and get a free HD-DVD Player. When that happens I will go will go buy a toaster.

The Titles I can't get in Blu I will get in red. But it will still be Blu first.

ToastMaster makes the best toasters. The TMT4--4 slot extra-wide in Silver. They make one in RED too but I doubt that's your first color.$45.99.
Great for bagels..........You probaly have to ask about the Toshi though.

I made that point (about the warner effect) I'm sure many others have as well, I was simply answering based on the parameters of the question.

personally if Paramount or Universal (any HD-DVD studio for that matter) switches to BD only I'll buy their movies, during the war, remember the quality they release may not be as good as it can be but I see it as an investment, buy the crap version now so you can buy the quality release 2 year from now, when they release the Collectors edition or whatever. I want BD to win so bad that even tho I'm broke and can't financially add to the war anymore, I'm putting it on my Christmas list

I voted for shun

Realistically though if the studios remain split, pretty much all players in a couple of years will be dual format.

It is the only logical future if the studios remain split.

I think it is more likely that Universal will go neutral and eventually Paramount also. So no dual player needed - just get everything on BD...

Dude, pay your bills. There are plenty of better off supporters of BD to make the win.

Interesting poll results so far.

A mere 6% defect away from HDM forever.
Only 20% defect to red.
The rest stay blu or blu-dvd.

If that 20% is an accurate reflection of the general public, then it still does not look good for HD DVD.
