I hope someone else snags the rights so TT can't hold it up for ransom.

They basically confirmed it for 2013, so that's not happening.

I didn't know they owned the rights, just thought it was in talks.

I actually only saw this last year. For some reason I managed to avoid it for 25 years, even though I remember having the rental cassette in my hands a few times in the local video store back in the 80s. I was pleasantly surprised when I finally got around the watch it on DVD. Such a fun movie with really great SFX.

I always forget this one when I discuss superior remakes like THE THING, THE FLY, and INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS... but this is definitely among that list

Too bad they got this one, love the movie but probably have to pass on it. Don't trust that TT won't screw it up.

Oh, what...? Because the have screwed up a majority of their releases?

Come on, of all TT's many releases there has been really only one that has been controversial. Their track record is actually pretty good.

As much as I don't like their pricing and the "limited" numbers, I have to agree with the above. Most of their transfers have been great so far and is kind of preposterous to say that one cannot trust them based on one release. We are not talking about Echo Bridge or Mill Creek here...

I paid $3 for this on DVD. Will pay $30 for the Blu-ray.

I'm worried that whatever follows the Blu will add another 0 making it $ 300

Looking forward to this one — I like the remake even more than the original.

So what's the go with Twilight Time? (Yes, I'm a noob to their releases.) Once the issue is sold out, do the rights revert and the rights holder then releases the film, or is it a case of grabbing a Twilight release or simply missing out completely?

Twilight Times has exclusive rights to the title in the US market for 3 years after the release. 3000 copies and once gone you won't see it for 3 years except at extraordinary secondary market prices.

Ahh, that's clear now. Thanks for the reply, madlost1.

So, I need to keep an eye open for The Blob. (Yes, I've put myself on TT's mailing list, thanks to this thread.)

We'll know for sure when the rights to Fright Night run out 12/13/14 and Night of the living Dead 90 runs out 10/09/15 since those sold out before release. FN might've made it to release day, but not by much, NOTLD was way sold out weeks before thanks to speculators seeing what prices on Fright night were doing and expecting the same, which would've happened but for a shit transfer.

These should be instantly re-issued due to sales of the LE, so they will be the best test of what TT really is and means down the road. As of now TT has 3 year licensees on their releases, we'll see if Sony wants their quick selling LE titles back when those rights run out on and shortly after the dates mentioned. Many expect all to be re-issued through Sony, others ain't so sure. I think they'll just stick em back in the vault, no matter how quick the 3K editions sell out.

I wouldn't rely on SAE's mailing list as their announcements usually come after the item has already gone up for sale, usually a couple of days later in my experience, and you can usually find information here before it's available at SAE. You can count on people to repost information here which TT posts on their FB page.

That said, I'm sure there will be plenty of time to get in on this title.

Wish they'd release the original with Steven McQueen.

I hope that eventually, if TT ends up having people scalping their product with every popular title, they'll change the way they sell them and limit people to 2 copies per address. I know this is gonna annoy some here who like to scalp them, but I hate the practice, so I'm gonna advocate to get rid of it. I know The Blob is gonna sell out pretty darn quick. I'll be ready to pre-order the day it goes on sale, for sure. For Christine too if they include the commentary by John Carpenter. If not, I'll just buy the special edition DVD by Sony.

They're 0 for 1 on movies I like and bought. Burned once, twice shy.
