The longer you've collected and the more you've paid, the more frustrated you are at seeing these re-releases with identical art. The collectors 'who feel strongly' are some of the long-time members here.
Change up the artwork and give us something decent and most everyone's happy. Iron Man (play) took the sting out of me not owning Iron Man (FS) which came out before I knew what a steelbook was. There was a lot of worry about what play would do with Iron Man when it was first announced. Star Trek is one of the most-sought-after titles that garners the same worries, and last year's AU Star Trek was a bit of a monkey turd to the relief of many, who are going to get stung a few months later thanks to Zavvi. These events cause some collectors to lose interest, as has been voiced in other threads when this happens. If a few more people get the elusive cover, should I care? Not really. It needs to be some type of collectible package, boutique label or limited run for me to buy it, and I don't know if that will change because I never collected movies in other formats. To a large extent I collect packaging of movies that are liked and I'll eventually get around to watching them. There's a lot more info available online now that leads me into so many so-called blind-buys, info that wasn't available when the earlier formats were all we had: blu-ray.com reviews, rotten tomatoes and online trailers. Before that it was Siskel and Ebert and the Sunday newspaper, and I did not go out to the movies very much. Still don't. Last edited by (W)KRP; 02-11-2013 at 05:53 AM. |

I think KRP's point is a valid one that LE steelbooks from the niche companies like Eureka is much more likely to stay unique when OOP than one from a Hollywood studio.
Both the studios and retailers can see the value of reissuing Star Trek as a steelbook to tie into the new film's release. They now it will sell to not just steelbook collectors but those just wanting to buy the film as they have been reminded about it by the new one. |

You know what is most daft about these re-releases? And it's not that collectors feel like they are being ripped off by their precious steelbooks losing value. Anyone thinking that way is into the hobby for all of the wrong reasons! What's daft is that these companies aren't realizing the potential for even more revenue by offering variations in artwork design.
As is, all of those hardcore collectors would jump at the chance to own multiple steelbook designs of a film like this. They'd have a much better chance of quickly turning a profit and a quick stock turnover by offering us something we don't already have. ![]() |

Agree with WKRP and Petra that different artwork designs the way to go. I have multiples of many movies and would fully support the notion to go in that direction.
After the Roger Rabbit announcement, I have no doubts Zavvi's team could have come up with a brilliant artwork alternative for ST. |

Literally bought this film last week. Oh well.
On the other hand I only paid £5 for it so I guess buying it last week was lucky as I'm not tempted to pay £15 for it now. |
