Yes and it has better graphics (granted the additional cutscenes that have Snake acting like a ninja blow). Why couldn't they just at least put that version on a disc and include it in the collection? I suppose Hideo was far too busy or it would have cost too much to update the graphics but still without that it kind of renders this collection rather pointless when most people bought the HD collection already.

Because Silicon Knights and/or Nintendo own the rights. NOT Konami. If they would have any chance of a different version then maybe the PC one but I believe Microsoft Game Studios has the rights to that one.

Man I think Ive convinced myself to get the Legact Collection. If I trade in MGS HD Collection, Rising and the MGS Essential Collection, I can get $43. MGS4 is like $2.40. So about $45 if I throw that in. Id probably wait til the first chance it gets on sale at $40 or lower to jump on it but man will it be hard to part with all that MGS titles even though many of them are redundant and I dont even own the original hardware to play some of them

I have an extra copy of the MGS Saga Vol 2 and artbook that I got with MGS4. Maybe I'll see if I can get something on Ebay for those

Id rather have Portable Ops in this than TTS. Its the only glaring ommision from this set and makes this Legacy set incomplete

So it's a rights issue. That answers my question. Still doesn't change my stance. Being an owner of the already released HD collection the only thing that really had me interested with this collection was the possibility of a remastered/remade version of MSG1. Money saved I suppose.

Portable Ops would be nice too.

So in terms of actual games on the discs, this doesn't offer anything new for those who already own MGS4 and the HD Collection, correct? UNless the "trophy edition" of MGS4 is exclusive to this set...

Though Mei Ling's Twin Snakes VA is now the official version. It was used in the audio flashbacks in MGS4 (and she doesn't have an accent on the Missouri) not to mention it's used for the Super Smash Bros. Brawl codec conversations.

Other than the exclusive artbook, graphic novels and a voucher for MGS? No. The book is the only thing that makes me consider this. Games on disc are exactly the same.

As someone who only briefly played MGS3 and 4, and who's been wanting to play the whole series, this is perfect for me! It just seems like a LOT of game time though lol, especially since there are still games I have/want that will require me beating.

Personally I find it to be the best videogame storyline of all time. Even MGS2 is an amazing game I don't care how much people hate on it. If you haven't played the games definitely get this collection. But yeah it is definitely a lot of game time involved. I think the Metal Gear games have the longest cutscenes in videogame history as well...lol.

IA with most of what you say but never get behind people when they list this as one of the negatives about the port. You NEVER have to use the first person aiming. You can play the game as originally intended by simply ignoring this feature. Its not forced onto you and they don't change the level design to incorporate in any mandatory fashion. Its merely an extra option, not a requirement
The real problem with Twin Snakes' gameplay is that the bossfights were made easier.

On the flipside, the room clearing algorithms for the regular soldiers are pretty harsh. Which is good. The game is just an unbalanced mess. The original version, while more simple underneath the hood, is a finely honed experience. TTS walks over that in interest of bullet points on a box and rewriting the Snake character. Snake has always been a fairly grounded character, in comparison to the rogues gallery of supernaturals and the mechanically enhanced that he typically faces.

-------------------------

I myself will not be buying this set. I already own the PS2 Essentials collection, and MGS4 separately. Which is good enough for me. That set also includes MGS1 printed on actual PSone discs. As such, it was the last ever manufactured PSone game.

slightly off-topic: I would encourage anyone to track down a copy of MGS (Ghost Babel) for Gameboy Color. It is an excellent game.

Is the art book an exclusive with Amazon? I didn't see any reference to it on Best Buy's site, or is it packaged with every copy?
