Plus you're not getting any of the several tweaks that Pioneer has made for the newer firmware codes. According to the release info of the 1.05 and 1.08 firmware files they also made several performance improvements. No idea if the the difference is noticeable though. I have a chipped version so perhaps we could do some comparison. |

I need some help please. I bought this model pioneer BDP-150 from a seller who claimed it was already region free, but when it arrived, it is still locked and on original firmware. I'm very close to sending it back, but if it's easy to make it region free i want to give it a try.
Edit: it is now region free! I look forward to many US and Asian imports ![]() Last edited by Bumblefeet; 02-25-2014 at 09:02 PM. |

Well I got some help from folks at avsforum, mostly via this guide:
http://www.avsforum.com/t/1390589/th...#post_22949497 the firmware on the player I received was 1.05, which did not allow me to upgrade to the 4.03 firmware, so I had to downgrade my firmware first, and then follow the guide above. Quite haunting for me as I've never done this before. So I had to flash it twice using USB stick, you can update the firmware in the settings by selecting USB. Once I got it to 4.03 firmware, I still had to activate the firmware by running the MTKpio program on my pc where I had to enter both MAC and serial numbers of the player (which you can find in the settings), that generates a series of numbers you have to then input into the menu of the player. Once that was done, I can now press 3344 in initial setup and I will get a menu that allows me to change DVD and blu-ray region codes; I put the DVD one standard on "0", the blu-ray can only be put on one setting, so if you need to change it you do need to adjust it in the menu each time. Looking forward to testing out "Naked Lunch" as my first region A blu-ray, still waiting for it to arrive. ![]() |

Well if anyone out there still thinking of getting this i bought this player of amazon yesterday and it arrived today with 1.05. Heres how i downgraded and made it region free.
DOWNGRADE TO 1.02 FROM 1.05 TO INSTALL CFW. First Step: Downgrade from 1.05 to CFW to DG: 1) Download " http://www.mediafire.com/file/ecfmwb...-downgrade.rar " and copy the file "BDP-150_SP " to a Empty USB (formatted FAT or NTFS NOT EX FAT!!!) 2) Plugin the USB into the BDP 150 3) Boot up BDP 150 (without anything inserted) and press Home button 4) Go to initial setup 5) Update from the USB 6) When installed it will reboot. Second Step: 1) Download " http://www.mediafire.com/download/1c...re - v4.03.zip " and copy the file "BDP-150_SP" to a Empty USB (formatted FAT or NTFS NOT EX FAT!!!) 2) Download " http://www.mediafire.com/download/yy.../Activator.zip " and save to Desktop (or anywhere you want i don't care) 3) Plugin the USB into the BDP 150 4) Boot up BDP 150 (without anything inserted) and press Home button 5) Go to initial setup and options and select update. 6) Update from the USB 7) When installed it will reboot.(IN MY CASE IT GOT STUCK ON WAIT. I HIGHLY SUGGEST WAITING 15-20 MINUTES THEN TAKING THE POWER OUT AND THEN BACK IN) 8) CFW Is now installed. Now to activate Third Step: 1) Boot up BDP 150 (without anything inserted) and press Home button 2) Go to initial setup 3) Select Network - ip setting and write down the Mac address onto notepad (don't include the - literally just afe456e43 etc) 4) Go to the options and select system information 5) Write down your serial number into notepad (don't include - literally afe4r5e3 etc) 6) Run "MTKPIO.exe" which you downloaded and click on the unlock tap. 7) Select BDP-150 from the drop down box 8) Now copy the mac address you wrote down (5e56te3e etc) and click the From clipboard button 9) Now copy the Serial number you wrote down (98e4t5 etc) and click the From clipboard button 10) Click Generate button. 11) Turn on your BDP and select initial settings. 12) Press 3 7 2 1 on the remote 13) Enter the code from MTKPIO IE 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 1 2 3 4 5 14) Press Enter 15) DONE. TO CHANGE REGION CODE PRESS 3344 in initial setup and change DVD TO 0 AND BLU-RAY TO A (1) B (2) AND C (3) !!!! Huge thanks to borland from avsforums!!!! Why need to install custom firmware to that bluray player or bdp-160?
If i play only region2(My country region) bluray discs bd-iso files that it was region free does it need to install custom firmware? And this bluray player does it regonise/support windows7 share folders or does it need dlnie program to see some shared folders? Does the bmp-150 support mkv files? A lot of thanks for your time and your answers. Last edited by fits79; 06-27-2014 at 02:37 AM. |

I just buy this product but even i have connected with my router that it has dhcp enabled it doesn't seem to has internet.
A cable i connect is just like i was not connected the lan cable at all. I have try the same cable at the same router at the same port to tv, media player and laptop and work fine but at bdp-150 doesn't. And when i go to network connection test it bring me failed. Any suggestions. It has the official firmware 1.05. Even when i choose to make a downgrade from 1.05 to custom firmware doesn't regonise the file firmware "BDP-150_SP.bin" even at fat32 hard disk. Or even i try to install the latest official firmware 1.08 from the official pioneer site still doesn't regonise the firmware and bring me the error message "download file data corruption" or "no valid update file is found". Please HELP ME. Last edited by fits79; 07-11-2014 at 12:56 PM. |

Thank you! I was running v1.02 so only needed from Step 2 onwards, but this has given me a bit more space on my AV rack and I can now do away with the dodgy HDMI switch I was using to switch between this and my Region A player. Much prefer to use the one.

Hey guys, I have a few questions regarding the BDP-150.
1) Is it DVD region free out of the box (Firmware 1.02) 2) After applying the CFW update, will it be region free for Bluray, 3D Bluray and DVD? 3) After the update, when playing a bluray disc from a different region will the player know straight away or do you have to press something to change the region before inserting the disc? Thanks for your help. |

2) Yes 3) No, on the settings menu you need to press "3344" on your remote and alternate the BD setting to either 1 (Region A), 2 (Region B), 3 (Region C). I find it quite hassle free to be honest. |

![]() Just two minor issues/obstacles I encountered during the instructions you had given: A) Step 3, #6) I was not able to execute the MTKPIO.exe: My machine has a certain dll file missing (MSVCR100.dll) so I had to run the exe on my laptop instead; there it was working. According to AVS Forum and in case you do not have the option for a second PC, you need to install "Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 x86 Redistributable". Then it should work as well. B) Step 3, #7) After the program opened I didn't know what to do, because I did not see any dropdown you had mentioned. So I thought I need to load a setup script or something like that. But really only I had to do was to click on the "Unlock" tab at the very right. :-) This might help someone who stumbles across these things. Thanks again! Best Florian |
