Hi all,
I hope this alright to discuss here, pioneer firmware code is open source after all. I just purchased a Pioneer BDP-150 and since it has firmware v1.02 I am able to install third party firmware to make it region free. I have read only positive things about the third part firmware, with no horror stories. Is any one familiar with the region free firmware or has used it themselves. Just curious before I go a head with it. Regards |

I have the 140, but they're basically the same. After Pioneer's latest update, the region locking doesn't work anymore, but the problem should be solved with the 150 - but am not sure. I downgraded the software again myself, to make it free, but upgraded when I realized that the machine felt faster after the update. Now I use my PS3 as Region B and the Pioneer as Region A (it was on Region A when upgraded and then it locked onto it).
It's nice to be region free. |

I have the link book marked on my PC at home I will PM you or alternatively post the link in this thread in a few hours. Just remember you must have firmware 1.02 any higher and it won't work.

I will post the link up anyway, in case you find a way to reverse firmware.

JbHiFi had it for $191 but got it down to $175. Needs to be manufactured before November 2012 to have the correct firmware.
Its a nice player, the picture and sound quality are great and it plays 3d. Changing regions with the new firmware is very simple. |

I've been reading the av forums thread, its not possible to reverse the firmware. Make sure it is 1.02 though (says in the menu, may have to search a little) otherwise the unit may brick up and the warranty is void. There are instructions with the downloads (follow the link a posted further back) on to install the firmware safely and update it. Its actually far more simple then it looks and took me about 5mins to achieve. I now can press '3344' on my remote and select whatever region I would like.

Yer, probably right. Might wait till I build a home theatre and get a proffessional player. Might just get the mod chip and install it.

I'm sure by the time we have the equipment to do the oppo complete justice there will be later models, possibly even a 4k player.

I'm seriously contemplating the new RED laser player that goes with the new Laser projector. It does 4k and BDXL up to 200gb disks. Future prof for at least 5 years.
