Dreamworks Turbo 3D Blu-ray (2013) [Region Locked]

Turbo 3D Blu-ray

Dreamworks, known for awesome 3D in movies such as Madagascar 3D among a growing number of others, is releasing another great looking 3D movie called, Turbo, being released in 2D and 3D July 17, 2013.

The 3D in the theatrical trailer looks great, along the lines of The Croods, which has strong 3D.

This movie is about a Snail that is determined to win a race against full sized Indy Race cars (similar to Formula 1). He has a human trainer, as seen on the TV preview/TVspot.

Directed by David Soren
Produced by Lisa Stewart
Written by David Soren
Robert Siegel
Darren Lemke

Starring
Ryan Reynolds
Paul Giamatti
Michael Peña
Snoop Dogg
Maya Rudolph
Michelle Rodriguez
Samuel L. Jackson

Agreed. It'd be nice if we'd get a new 3D trailer in theaters before it's release, similar to the TV trailers that show the humans and more of the racing.

I recommend it!! I watched the early bird show today. I enjoyed it, I laughed a lot & so will you if you understand car enthusiast humor. It had a good message & 3D was good. The kids won't get most of it but my wife & I did which I think we were the only ones laughing out loud.. maybe out of 20 people in the theater. Also, a movie that takes place in my state & home town is always a plus (most of the movie at least)!

I just ordered this one in 3D. I'm usually not huge on animated movies, but my Auro-3D demo disc came with a 2D preview using Auro-3D sound and it looked like it might be amusing so I ordered the 3D version.

Unfortunately, they never released the Auro-3D soundtrack on Blu-Ray other than that snippet (shame since it's already made) and it sounded great in the preview. I can only hope Neural X does a good job with it (usually pretty good so long as there is already a decent surround track in the movie).

I haven’t seen it since it was in theaters but I remember the 3D was very strong, as befitting Dreamworks. Turbo getting sucked into a car engine and bestowed with super speed was a highlight.

This movie was much better than I expected, and the 3D was solid as usual from Dreamworks

If you’re doing it right (and depending where you are) you can get used copies of this for $6-9 and new for not much more. At that price movies like this are a no brainer. If you only watch it once it’s not the end of the world, a cheap night in

Hope you enjoy it though! I wouldn’t rush back to rewatch it but I would actually rewatch it and I didn’t think I would say that before I actually saw it lol

Why is the thread title saying "Region Locked" when the disc is Region Free? Is there some disc which is Region Locked?

By the way, the Indian 3D Blu-ray release is Region Free.

Indian 3D + HD Blu-ray Combo

Indian 3D Blu-ray + DVD Combo

Pretty sure the French edition is region locked, and maybe the US edition too. Maybe the Indian one is the only region free one!

Edit: US edition is apparently region free

I remember hating this movie and really can't remember the quality of the 3D. I now am curious so it will be my next watch.

Yes, solid 3D, some strong, medium, sometimes high medium layers much of the way when I saw it way back then.

The movie was interesting, but not something I wanted to rush out to see again right away. Even so, much better than Pixar's Cars 2: Tow Truck IMO.

I just watched Turbo in 3D. The DTS-HD MA 7.1 sound upmixed to Neural X pretty darn well. The overlapping Auro-3D demo I have sounds somewhat better, but Neural X gets about 85%-90% there, IMO and it does feature rear surrounds (Auro 11.1 is 5.1 + up to 6 overheads) that the Auro version did not, which you can actually hear discretely in a few places.

The 3D was excellent with loads of smooth shifting negative parallax (pop-outs that don't just "pop" but smoothly move out of the screen like you'd expect a real 3D camera to do when something approaches it). Frankly, it might be the best 3D I've seen with animated CGI other than perhaps Thunder in the House of Magic (which is bonkers with jump in your face pop-outs).

The story was...insane, but somehow highly amusing to me, as in it's so over-the-top it's funny even in places I'm not sure it's trying to be. Overall, I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Cool.

---------------

Dreamworks Animation were on a roll there with their 3D CGI animated films back then. Now they just make sequels to movies I'm not really interested in much.
Trolls 2, Croods 2 (Croods 1 was much better IMO), Boss Baby 2... They're not pushing the 3D as much as they did in Madagascar 3 3D. Surprised they're not making a Madagascar 4. Madagascar 3 was from 2012, and the strongest 3D of all Dreamworks films.

I liked the first How to Train your Dragon, but wasn't a big fan of 2 or 3. Home, I avoided that one. Kung Fu Panda 3 was okay, good 3D. Captain Underpants I avoided seeing. Abominable I didn't see that one.

Next up is Puss n Boots 2, and The Bad Guys.

Just watched again and it's still one of my absolute favorite 3D movies. Always a ton of fun.

Cool.

————————

Dreamworks have always been an inconsistent studio, but personally I’ve preferred their recent sequels to their original titles. Trolls 1 and Croods 1 are very undemanding and generic family friendly fare. I like Croods 2 more for being not just a less good Ice Age clone and I like Trolls 2 more for having a slightly more engaging story.

Home is actually a lot better than you’d expect, and the 3D is still good despite not being at their usual standards. Abominable is a fantastic movie. I personally think Madagascar 3 is the worst animated 3D movie I own, so that’s the one I’d like a sequel to the least lol.

Different strokes for different folks!
