I just watched Turbo in 3D. The DTS-HD MA 7.1 sound upmixed to Neural X pretty darn well. The overlapping Auro-3D demo I have sounds somewhat better, but Neural X gets about 85%-90% there, IMO and it does feature rear surrounds (Auro 11.1 is 5.1 + up to 6 overheads) that the Auro version did not, which you can actually hear discretely in a few places.
The 3D was excellent with loads of smooth shifting negative parallax (pop-outs that don't just "pop" but smoothly move out of the screen like you'd expect a real 3D camera to do when something approaches it). Frankly, it might be the best 3D I've seen with animated CGI other than perhaps Thunder in the House of Magic (which is bonkers with jump in your face pop-outs). The story was...insane, but somehow highly amusing to me, as in it's so over-the-top it's funny even in places I'm not sure it's trying to be. Overall, I enjoyed it quite a bit. |
