Cool.

---------------

Dreamworks Animation were on a roll there with their 3D CGI animated films back then. Now they just make sequels to movies I'm not really interested in much.
Trolls 2, Croods 2 (Croods 1 was much better IMO), Boss Baby 2... They're not pushing the 3D as much as they did in Madagascar 3 3D. Surprised they're not making a Madagascar 4. Madagascar 3 was from 2012, and the strongest 3D of all Dreamworks films.

I liked the first How to Train your Dragon, but wasn't a big fan of 2 or 3. Home, I avoided that one. Kung Fu Panda 3 was okay, good 3D. Captain Underpants I avoided seeing. Abominable I didn't see that one.

Next up is Puss n Boots 2, and The Bad Guys.

Cool.

————————

Dreamworks have always been an inconsistent studio, but personally I’ve preferred their recent sequels to their original titles. Trolls 1 and Croods 1 are very undemanding and generic family friendly fare. I like Croods 2 more for being not just a less good Ice Age clone and I like Trolls 2 more for having a slightly more engaging story.

Home is actually a lot better than you’d expect, and the 3D is still good despite not being at their usual standards. Abominable is a fantastic movie. I personally think Madagascar 3 is the worst animated 3D movie I own, so that’s the one I’d like a sequel to the least lol.

Different strokes for different folks!

Thanks. That's cool Abominable was enjoyable for you. I'll keep it in mind.
Home, I heard the 3D wasn't as good? True? That one sort of reminded me of Lilo and Stitch, so I didn't go see it.

Yeah, I hear what you're saying about Madgascar 3's story, although I liked the adventure aspect. The 3D really helps along with the nice visuals in strong 3D.

I'm thinking of The Guardians, where Jack Frost has to team up to get rid of the Sandman nightmares. That was a good one IMO with nice, medium to high medium layers of 3D.

Croods 1 was a generally fun adventure, while Croods 2 was more like a sitcom to me, taking place in that one home village between the conflicting neighbors. Not bad but not the adventure I was hoping for.

How did you like the Boss Baby movies?

Turbo 3D was sort of original and kind of fun in terms of the snail winning races on the track and all.

I’ve been thinking about picking up both Abominable and Smallfoot, the trailers look pretty good. I had no idea there were so many 3D animated Yeti movies!

Picked up The Croods recently, watched the first half hour so far, really liked it, excellent 3D, gonna watch the rest of it when my girl and I have a chance to watch it together. Same with Turbo, just picked it up, watched the first bit, pretty funny so far, and damn good 3D for a non-nWave title, gonna watch the whole thing with my girl soon. Speaking of nWave, I just showed her A Turtle’s Tale tonight and she loved it. The mind-blowing benchmark of 3D immersion, and a super cute story. Gonna show her the sequel soon, ditto the Bigfoot sequel. So much 3D goodness I’ve discovered lately, thanks to the good people on this forum!

Abominable is a properly great movie imo! Really cute story and pretty solid 3D. Home is honestly much better than I expected, it kind of has a shaky start but turns into quite a lovely movie by the end! The 3D isn't amazing but it's perfectly good in that movie, still better than your average pixar 3D.

Guardians is okay to me, I remember not loving the characters or script, but it was reasonably fun. I enjoyed Epic more, that seemed to have a similar vibe but a better movie overall in my mind.

I haven't seen Boss Baby yet, got a trusty cheap used UK edition sat on my shelf waiting to be watched, along with lots of others (you guys get it lol) but I expect it'll be a fun but not revolutionary animation I can watch once every year or so like most Dreamworks movies. I'm very happy that the second one is being released in 3D too!

Don't even think mate, those two movies are excellent buys. Smallfoot doesn't have amazing 3D but it does the job and the story in that one is shockingly deep. It's so much better than you'd expect from the cover. Abominable is a different vibe but a great movie with solid 3D! Buy buy buy lol

The 3D was excellent with loads of smooth shifting negative parallax (pop-outs that don't just "pop" but smoothly move out of the screen like you'd expect a real 3D camera to do when something approaches it). Frankly, it might be the best 3D I've seen with animated CGI other than perhaps Thunder in the House of Magic (which is bonkers with jump in your face pop-outs).

The story was...insane, but somehow highly amusing to me, as in it's so over-the-top it's funny even in places I'm not sure it's trying to be. Overall, I enjoyed it quite a bit.
Just watched again and it's still one of my absolute favorite 3D movies. Always a ton of fun.

Had to sit through the trailer for this.

Its trailer was more impressive than Avatar 2's (WRT 3D)

Change my mind.

I finally got around to watching this all the way through. Absolutely spectacular 3D — the racing and chase scenes are pretty mindblowing, some of the best 3D this side of nWave. Way way better than I expected. And the story wasn’t bad either; no potty humour, thank Zeus, and not too many gratuitous pop culture references. Crackerjack voice cast too; always good to see Luis Guzman working! Can’t wait to watch this with the missus. A really solid 3D CGI animated flick.

I agree. Seeing a car race against equally-sized cars is one thing. But seeing a tiny snail race against gargantuan cars that are thousands of times bigger than the snail is quite another thing, in a more amazing way.

I agree. I have watched many IndyCar races on TV and a few in-person, and the camera views where the camera is almost touching the ground are the best camera views.

A nice perspective point of view for the snail, true.

This is definitely one of the best Dreamworks 3D titles.

The other day, I stumbled across a used copy of this for a good price, so I picked it up, despite not being all that interested. Since it was used I wanted to check function within the return window, so I popped it into the BR player. Looked fine and I got pulled away into something else around the house ans left it in the player.

Tonight, I though what the heck, let's see how it is.

What a pleasant surprise! I thought the 3D was really well done and the more I watched it, the more it grew on me. I ended up really enjoying it, and would consider showing it to someone who wanted to see what a 3D film looked like.
