The site was only down for about 30 minutes or so due to the hack, and the tech crew decided to use this time to do some much needed upgrades. So thanks to them, he decided to take the day off, kick back and watch Cars and Ratatouille on Blu-ray.

Serious spin.

Reading your brief posting history, it's very clear you didn't come here for a relaxed discussion about Blu-ray. This is a site about Blu-ray, it doesn't claim to be anything else than that. If you aren't here for Blu-ray, then please move along. No hard feelings, nothing personal.

Edit: Please see the forum rules, especially rules #1, #8, #15 and #17.

was wondering what was up myself. If it was just maintenence, then why not a splash-page mentioning that? For a whole site to go off-line, that's unusual.

Default *sigh*... the myopic and self-centered

"us vs. them" comments? All this talk about AVS and pro-HD DVD special forces hack squads just makes the community seem small-minded and slightly paranoid. If HD DVD and AVS members want to discredit or challenge Digital Bits, they will (try to) do so by other means. Suggestion: Give them a little credit and check facts before posting outrageous statements that fuel ill will.

Wait, I've got it!!! DB was ACTUALLY hacked by WickyWOO!!! It was a set-up job to discredit AVS and HD DVD! Good job Wicky!!!!

I am an AVS member going back to 2002. I started the local Harrisburg reception thread there. I provided the first Mac FireWire-based HDTV recording solution that could be scheduled for certain cable systems there. I successfully lobbied for a Mac HT forum there.

I can tell you that AVS is not the home for HD media enthusiasts. The BD forums there are overrun and devoid of moderation to enforce the rules. On the subject of BD, any sort of defense of AVS rings hollow to me.

Sounds like a good idea. After security's been compromised you'll want to make sure that everything is up to date and running on the latest version. You'll want to re-verify all the security to make sure that it's not vulnerable again. It would suck to get it back up and running from a backup, only to be shut down once more.

Come on now. Be serious. Half those bonehead HD DVD boys can't even figure out what 51 - 49 is, so you really think they can hack a website?

I know Blu-ray.com finds this a disgraceful act. I think AVS along with all the other sites also find this a disgraceful act. It's fairly obvious that it was a zealot and I'm confident if found out will be banished by all.

The site in now working...Here's a little tease "By the way, we're hearing that Sony's sales numbers for Spider-Man 3 and Spider-Man: The High Definition Trilogy on Blu-ray are going to be pretty substantial. Watch for official details in the next few days".

When it comes back up, should we start a thread on that too?
