What a weird f'ing movie! I liked it though. Very unique, lots of great character actors, grim tone a lot of 80's movies didn't quite have. I have to say though, this movie blew it by not having an image of the young girl pregnant right before the credits.
Video looked good. Great during the daytime. Solid disc. Gonna watch the documentary next time I eat. |

Does anyone know if on the arrow release they use the original UA logo, or a newer one? thanks.

I'm very late to the game on this release. The Shout disc is likely long OOP. I grabbed the Arrow disc last week, went in blind on a whim, and had a blast watching this. I have no idea how I've gone this long and never watched it before now. I'm a huge fan of early '80's creature horror and slashers. This was deliciously atmospheric and had a variety of hilariously over-the-top moments. The active, aggressive score was also a real stand-out, almost a cross between Harry Manfredini's work on the Friday the 13th series and something you might have heard on the Incredible Hulk tv show from the 70's. In all, I'm thrilled that I picked this up. Great add to the early 80's horror library.

With this new Kino Cult Blu-ray, makes me wonder if someone else has the 4K rights, this is certainly an underrated creature effects classic from that era, fantastic atmospheric cinematography, would make a great 4K release. I’m gonna hold off picking this up. I have the MGM Midnite Movie DVD.

This. It could also use the boost it would get in dark detail. The lighting designs and lighting effects are very good here, but there are plenty of scenes in the woods in the dead of night that would benefit noticeably from the format, if well-mastered. I'd be over the moon if someone rolled this out in uhd. Great flick.

I picked up the Kino Cult release but only because I wanted the slipcover. Apparently the older Shout Factory disc was OOP and sought after but now it's worthless.
This film badly needs a remaster, same as Squirm, which also got a Kino Cult re-release. I was 100% certain Squirm would get a 4K, a little less confident about Beast Within but nope. I don't have high hopes of either of these two getting fresh Arrow scans - they're not the same label they were when they released Squirm. |

Les Baxter's music score for BEAST WITHIN was great. Love the sinister opening music.

It's a Stereo hi-fi presentation. Released in 1985 by Warner Home Video UK in a clamshell case with the Warner logo etched on to the inside with insert artwork. The clamshell case is one of those with the 'lip' on it. The one wonky thing about the insert artwork put together by Warner is there's a still on the back from a short scene the BBFC insisted be /cut/ from the movie. It's where Michael is dreaming and has a flashback of shaking his head with his face covered in blood after munching on Edwin (Logan Ramsey). The BBFC was unamused! Even so, that's part of the charm of collecting various pre-certs; you get some edited versions -- usually due to gory content -- of certain movies. ("The Satanic Rites of Dracula" [1973-UK] was another Warner pre-cert release with a /cut/ due to gore). Last edited by CMG; 01-22-2025 at 12:53 PM. |

The shot mentioned was indeed cut from THE BEAST WITHIN , along with forcible breast exposure during the sexual assaults & a decapitation was shortened. SATANIC RITES lost a second (!) to a gory staking due to bare breasts in the same shot. BBC1 usually showed the film with the footage intact.
