I can't imagine them adding new sound effects. Of course you could say the same thing for Halloween yet they did just that (with the thunderstorm in the beginning for example). The fact that they are acknowledging the grit and grime of the film leaves me hopeful that they will be treating this film with the respect it deserves. Let's hope so.

Cool. Knew this was coming, though. I think I've been seeing reference to a 40th anniversary edition for 3 years now, which is why I kept holding off on getting the previous release. It's going to pretty wild seeing this for the first time on my 55 inch. It's one of the few of my favorite horror movies I've yet to get on Blu-ray. Here's hoping for Blu-rays of Horror of Dracula, Island of Terror, Count Yorga, Jaws 2, The Brood, The Hitcher, and The Exorcist III.

This is my favorite horror movie and one of my favorite movies over all, so I am excited to see how it will turn out.
I hope Dark Sky/ MPI do not go down the DNR route, like they did last time. It is well-known that their previous release had a tiny bit of DNR applied to it - something Don May Jr. from Synapse has said was not inherent in the transfer/ restoration he delivered to them This is evidenced by the British release, which is based on the same transfer but does not shown any signs of DNR at all and therefore is considered a tiny bit better. The statements quoted above, however, does seem to imply they are aware of the nature of the movie. And while it will be interesting to hear the new remix at least once, I sincerely hope that Dark Sky will include the original mono mix again and not just a down-convert of the new one (as Anchor Bay's Halloween release appeared to do). |

Quite possibly the greatest horror film ever made, and almost certainly the best modern horror film made. No film has ever gotten under my skin the way this one has. I'm up for a double dip, though the original UK release will take some beating.
I'm still, sort of, under the opinion the best way to watch this is on grainy old VHS. It's the lone VHS I still have I'll never part with. ![]() |

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...texas+massacre I'm surprised by the amount of people that don't already own this on Blu-ray (or even seen this). I own the Second Sight "Seriously Ultimate Edition" and it's great. I love the original and the remake. When I first saw the original I hated it, but after watching it again years later I appreciated it more. Then I watched it again even more years later and thought it was a masterpiece. |

Back in 1999, I purchased Pioneer's original DVD release of The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974) which was released on October 6, 1998. In 2006 I purchased the Dark Sky DVD and sold the Pioneer DVD due to it having an ugly non-anamorphic transfer. I later purchased another copy of the 1998 Pioneer disc just for the cool artwork. I threw the Pioneer disc out and placed a duplicate copy of the Dark Sky disc in the case (w/ the '98 Pioneer cover).
So, my Chainsaw '74 collection consists of:
Now, can we get a 40th anniversary BD/DVD of Black Christmas (1974)???? 1998 Pioneer DVD artwork ![]() |

To be honest, I thought the previous release (the British one released by Second Sight... I think), looked a little too good, if you know what I mean. The colors seemed stronger and richer than they should have been... TCM should look rough, nasty and washed-out! But that's just me.

I'm sure the 16mm resolution will look excellent. But I'm very curious about the color tweaking. Will it be more like the old Pioneer dvd? The laserdisc? Or even more washed out than the last release? Don't get me wrong, the colors loooked good and fresh, but definitely not as strong as in previous dvd releases.

I'll wait to see if Dark Sky goes bananas on the DNR machine and seriously alters the color timing before I decide to buy. A new 4K scan sounds promising, but there are ways this could be botched.
For now, the UK disc from Second Sight serves me fine. |
