Massive Godzilla fan here. When I first heard news of a new Japanese Godzilla, I could've screamed like a little girl. I can't wait to see how this turns out.

Yeah, personally I'm interested in both. I'll take anything Godzilla I can get and I love the fact we may get an American and a Japanese series running concurrently.

I like how it seems Anno and Higuchi are going for a dark and "scary" take on the monster in their movie. To have a "hero Godzilla" in the American films and a villainous, "evil" one in the Japanese films would be great, it's another way they can both offer something different from each other.

Yeah, It is something that has never happened before! A big budget hollywood series, and a toho series, neck to neck. It is a good time to be a G-Fan, even just a Kaiju fan

I'm all excited for a Toho G and all, I just hope they adopt better and progressive filmmaking to how they do it.

Toho for so long held onto a non progressive filmmaking to their G films. Dull and uninspired. Toho has to give a damn to make this property flourish into a level of modernity for great filmmaking. The visual presence of G will supposedly be a suit and cg hybrid. I hope the direction fleshes out a solid visual for G. I love seeing G, crap film or not, cuz he's G BUT the visual presentation has been lacking a lot for him. They need to know how to evolve their shooting method for him. Instead of mostly just being stuck in the same template w/ little flourishes.

I think we'll be getting something very, very different for this film, especially with Anno and Higuchi

"He also promises that this will be the scariest Godzilla yet, quoting the horrors of the real world, like 9/11, the March 11 tsunami, and subsequent Fukushima nuclear crisis having stripped the the world of its innocence. That said, he also says the film is going back to the basics."

Cause there were no terrorist attacks, natural disasters, and nuclear fears before these events? Citing real world tragedies to justify making a dark monster movie seems a bit pretentious to me. I look forward to this movie though

Godzilla was originally a metaphor for the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, so Godzilla has always been centered around real world events. Right now, it happens to be Fukushima. Godzilla has always been a metaphor for the horrors of nuclear meddling

I wonder how LONG it will be before this hits North American shores.

I am oddly excited for this.

It'll do well in Japan. If they release it here, not so much. Americans are spoiled with effects, most will call it "kiddy trash". But not me, Kaiju is my genre

I expect either a limited release or a DTV premiere. I just don't want to have to wait for ever to have my grubby hands on it.

Even though Toho will release it without English subtitles, I am importing the Japanese Blu-ray on day one the pre-order pops up on Amazon Japan.

Since I only understand maybe about two dozen words in Japanese, I will be a little more patient and wait for the official US Blu release.

If it gets any kind of theatrical release in the US at all it will obviously be a very limited kind of thing, and the ones who'd seek it out would mostly be Godzilla/kaiju fans and people generally interested in Japanese cinema and pop culture, so I don't think there'd be many audience members mocking it or anything.

Same, I'll wait for the inevitable American and European releases. I can't see it taking that long, Godzilla is popular and the movie will be brand new so it's going to attract the attention of a lot of distributors.

People mocking it won't be an issue, the real issue is will it even get released theatrically? It won't make enough to justify a wide release as it is a very niche movie. But if does come to theaters near me, you can bet I will be there.

I would be surprised if Sony didn't already have a deal locked in, considering they have had the home video license for most of the Heisei and Millennium series for about two decades now.
