By the way, James has a good point -- someone needs to check The Equalizer. If any movie might suffer from black crush, it's that one (since so much of it is set at night and inside dark interiors). |

Seems the black crush problem only started with 2015 titles. |

Blu-ray Samurai

I just sent this email to Sony:
"Hi, I am writing in regards to your Bluray release of "The Interview" which I recently purchased. It seems the PC levels were mixed up with the TV levels during the Bluray rendering process, which results in a major black crush of the movie presentation. Some darker scenes are almost unwatchable. This was not how the movie looked during its limited theatrical release or digital downloads which were available. I don`t know if Sony Home Entertainment is aware yet of this technical problem with the tranfer and will be offering replacements which fix this faulty transfer!? Awaiting your comments I thank you in advance for your assistance regarding this matter, Best regards" Special thanks to revgen for explaining the problem with the redering process! |

Blu-ray Knight

Yes it does. It has crushed blacks. That's really the most noticeable difference between the BLu-ray and the Sony 4K (besides the better color saturation which is a byproduct of having more resolution).

So it would be reasonable to assume it goes back to the DI?

Do you mean the 2nd movie? I'll have to check that out as well, since I also have that on Sony 4K and Blu-ray (and UV of course).

Guys, the easiest way to deal with all of this conjecture is to take some screenshots of the UV files on your computer and check them against BD screenshots.

I'm not sure what what the problem is. I noticed the black bars on the Blu-ray of the Fury aren't completely black, like they are on the Sony 4K version. Both inputs have exactly the same settings so it's not that.
