I understand it wasn't "CES" . I'm talking about the fact that there was a section of the conf where Sony, Disney, Fox, and Lion's Gate were supposed to preview 2008 offerings. Haven't heard a peep of what was shown/discussed.

Since that time, it has been stated (by Maxpower1987, I believe) that Universal has been sniffing around BD replication again... and a lot more serious than before!!

I just read in the insider thread that only BD will be represented no DUD folks are presenting? Interesting
I saw that also on digital bits, looks like HD-DVD is going down the drain. It's is a no brainer for Warner to make their killer move.

It's good to see open discussion like that in the industry.
They all have the opportunity to start a new era in home entertainment.
One that is both cutting edge and profitable.

The competition was healthy but enough is enough,
lets move on now and get HDM mainstream.
Time to drop the Red disc.

Just have to wonder why Universal was a no-show at that thing, and why HD DVD didn't send anyone out to it either.

Disappointing as far as the releases since all were pretty well known.
I really hope CES blows the doors off things.
I also love how so many people agree that hd-dvd can NOT win , yet companies still allow it to hold everyone back and drag things out.

From Bill Hunt's column about the conference:
"It was also revealed that the Blu-ray profile 1.1 firmware update for the PS3 is expected to be made available for download later this month."

More confirmation of what we've previously heard.

Yep, sounds like it was a bust as far as any new titles being shown.

Interesting that the HD DVD companies abstained. I guess the truth we're headed towards a Blu future hurts.

I agree with the sentiment that 2008 is a critical year for Hollywood. They have to end this mess, or they are going to pay dearly in the future. Hopefully the retailers will help provide some clarity too and make the decisions for the studios that much easier.

HD-DVD did not have a good week/month/year. Too much this week to try and defend. I would have loved to have seen the Blogger panel with Universal and Toshiba in attendance. They are ducking and taking cover...

What's more, a number of HD-DVD titles won honors at the High-Def Awards last evening (click here for the details), and only Warner and Paramount sent representatives to accept. Universal was represented by no one

Default 7 M HDM SI, 1 M in november.

I think this is US only. That works out to 4.35 M BD and 2.65 M HD DVD given 62:38 SI.

BD Attach rate with 100% PS3 = 4.35/2.7 = 1.6
HD DVD Attach rate with AO = 2.65/.75 = 3.5

With the europe market included you have 5.35 M BD and 3 M HD DVD a 64:36 ratio.

Quote:
Judith McCourt, of the research firm The Redhill Group, shared statistics that showed the news isn’t all bad for high-def. More than 7 million software units have been sold, and the dedicated hardware base is actually growing faster than that of DVD during its first two years, she said. In November, high-def software sales were past 1 million for the first time. And with 36% of U.S. households owning a high-def TV by the end of the year, the high-def software numbers will only go higher.

Did anyone notice the little tidbit that over 80% of PS3 owners have watched a Blu-ray movie on their machines?

I've been saying all along, after Christmas the retailers will choose a format, and that format will win. The rumblings are already happening from major retailers that that's exactly what they're going to do. And which way do you think they'll go?
No retailer is going to cut off 35-40% of the market. Won't happen.
