Not in the US, no. But, South Korea is actually Region A, so it is the same region as the US. You're paying a little more in shipping, but it will still play on all US players. Don't have to be region free.

Mommy Canadian Blu-ray Release REVIEW
![]() The Canadian release (reviewed above) is Region-A and perfectly playable in the U.S. It can be purchased through Amazon.ca. I don't have any information on the extras that will be included on the Korean release that is also mentioned in this thread, but I will be enormously surprised if they come subtitled in English. (There is absolutely no reason why the French commentary should come subtitled in English). In fact, I have some Korean releases of French films, and not a single one of them has optional English subtitles on the supplemental features. The main feature could have English subtitles. Ya, i actually found this Canada release online already but the commentary track is in french and no optional english subtitles according to the review which is ultimately what i'm after.
Seems weird they wouldn't release the extras with english subs. Let me know if anyone hears of a translated version of this commentary track! |

They only release 1 film a month, and the next film they have up is Only Lovers Left Alive. From there, they have announced Foxcatcher, Two Days One Night, Oldboy, Mommy, and a few others. So it's all speculation as to what they will go with next. Could come out in June, might come out in December for all we know. |

Guess I'll have to buy the DVD. Just watched the movie and thought it was pretty amazing. I mistakenly thought it had a Blu-ray release in the U.S.
![]() Man, the power of this film really sneaks up on you. I don't think I'll be able to get it out of my head for a while. Last edited by MikeScott; 05-21-2015 at 08:06 AM. |

Edit: Just watched the DE disc. (B-locked and no EN subs, for those who rip their discs, fitting subs 'll be online soon ) PQ was alright I thought. French disc might look better though, features 30% higher bitrate Last edited by Tuco_76; 05-21-2015 at 10:37 AM. |

The power of this film really snuck up on me. The kid in this movie is horrible and yells obscenities at his mother, gets physically violent with her, and he just has some serious issues. At first I hated him. But then he has these moments of vulnerability where you can kind of feel for him. And the strange thing is you know he actually does love his mom. He just has a f*cked up way of showing it. The mother isn't perfect either. But as much of a handful as he is she loves him too. There are moments in this film that make me want to cry just thinking about them. I didn't even realize quite how powerful they were at the time. But now I can't stop thinking about the movie. Something that really took getting used to is that the director chose to film in a 1:1 aspect ratio. So the image is just in the center of the screen. He chose to do this to allow focus on the characters and nothing else. No background distractions. Sounds gimmicky before you watch it and it is definitely hard to get into at first. But this really ends up working surprisingly well. Especially when there are times the image is expanded to full screen. Reminded me of A Single Man and its use of color in that respect. Here when things are good and hopeful the picture is in full. It's not often but happens a few times. The first time it does is just awesome the way it happens. And then later there's an absolutely beautiful moment with it, inspired by the finale of Six Feet Under. The soundtrack is great too and utilized well. Suzanne Clement as their neighbor who comes to play an important part of their life is just wonderful. That would be one of my favorite supporting performances of 2014. All three leads are terrific. There is just so much to talk about with this film. It's beautiful and heartbreaking. It's so gorgeously filmed. There are some really lovely moments here. I don't think I'll be able to get it out of my head for a while. A travesty it wasn't nominated for Best Foreign Film at the Oscars. One of the best films of 2014. 9/10 (A) |

Announced today via Plain Archive's instagram...
![]() Mommy will be released in a limited edition of 150 copies this Saturday, 21 January 2017, at ART NINE Theatre in Seoul, Korea. No mention of price, but lucky for anyone in the area. The film will also receive "a numbered limited edition later." Really glad to see this finally moving forward a bit, I believe it was first announced for 2015 release?! I'm sure someone will be happy to correct me if I'm wrong. Anyway, it's been a long wait. This should be great. |
