Island of Terror is available on a European region free release. It looks great and it's uncut.

I too am waiting and waiting for War of the Worlds, Shrinking Man, Married a monster, Triffids and Angry Red Planet.

When it's time for my next player, I'll probably get a region free.

A lot of those aren't from the 50s. Is there a DVD of I Married a Monster from Outer Space? I remember reading about it in lots of books as a kid but it's one of the few I never actually had a chance to see. Destination Moon and It Came from Outer Space and Invaders from Mars are the other three major 50s sci-fi ones I haven't seen.

Just checked, and oh damn, it's in the warner archive. I hate buying DVD-Rs, but maybe I'll do it in this case. :P

I was looking at my DVD collection, and I have something like 40 or 50 50s sci-fi/horror movies that don't have bluray releases. I don't think I would re-buy that many of them, but it's still kinda crazy how many of those flicks are probably never going to be upgraded. As a kid I was just crazy for giant monster movies, and this was the best decade for them I'd say.

I eye those every time there's a sale, and can never pull the trigger. I did manage to make myself buy the Eclipse set with Goke and X from Outer Space, but I've never seen any of the movies in this set and thus don't know if I want to drop 30 bucks on it! Fiend Without a Face is a good one, though. I will have to pick that up at some point. I wish they'd do some more of the silly genre flicks every now and then on bluray; Equinox was one of my favorite Criterion discs even though it's certainly not a classic by any stretch of the imagination. Robinson Crusoe on Mars is the only one I can think of offhand (unless you count Scanners, which is pretty silly and questionable, but from a critical darling director), and I know that was basically a passion project of one of the higher-ups at Criterion so it might have been a one-off.

You can pick up a used copy of the original pressed (but OOP) DVD for about the same price as the WAC MOD version.

This thread prompted me to review my collection, and I'm in the same boat; I have a ton of 50s sci-fi films that will most likely not get upgraded to blu, which is a shame. Speaking of which, I'm glad I picked this up while it was still in print: link. I don't know if the rumored plans of a blu-ray will ever come to fruition, given the film's tortured rights history.

A bunch of these were mastered in HD years ago and aired on cable - the now defunct MONSTERS IN HD station.

...so why hasn't anyone grabbed them?!

I recently bought the Warner Archive DVD-R release (along with the widescreen release of The Black Scorpion) and it looks pretty decent. It's funny, but while I love 50's sci-fi, this was one movie I had never bothered to check out despite reading a lot of positive opinions and reviews about it until I picked up the WA release. In some ways, it reminds me of a full length episode of the original Outer Limits TV show. While I enjoyed it for what it is (or was), I do think it's a bit over-rated and there's several Ed Wood-esque scenes near the end where it appears the wooden supports for the full size section of the spaceship are ridiculously visible in the shots.

I occasionally buy from Warner Archive when they have the 5 for 50 sales, I'll add that one to my list. It always got positive reviews in the books I used to read as a kid so I'm quite interested.

Sad to hear that Invaders from Mars's DVD is now OOP. I really missed the boat on a lot of stuff during the 5 or 6 years that I wasn't buying DVDs, and am certainly paying the price since Amazon/Ebay are insane (anything OOP gets listed starting at like 60 bucks, even though much of it seems to never sell). I always look through used DVD sections at half price books and the lot, but it seems every single Hammer DVD just vanished off the face of the earth as soon as they went OOP.

There's been a Paramount release of I MARRIED A MONSTER FROM OUTER SPACE in 2004. It's a pressed DVD in anamorphic widescreen. You might want to look out for it.

What the hell, I for some reason thought it was 50/60s...anyways there was a DVD of I Married a Monster From Outer Space by Paramount - I have it. There is a few left one on Amazon.ca for $34. It's a cool little movie. They have some used ones for $18

How about Sci-Fi Monsters?
No, although Forbidden Planet does include a doc on the movie and one on Robby the Robot, both of which are also on YouTube.

Assuming it's not a bunch of crappy upscales like Killer Shrews, that's pretty awesome.

Sorry, I didn't express myself clearly.

I meant to ask if and which BD "SCi-Fi Monsters" is on?

I have Forbidden Planet and Watch the Sky is one of the best extras on the disc, or any disc for that matter.

Sci-Fi monsters was on the Godzilla King of the Monsters DVD released by simitar way back in the day. I sold off my copy, I totally forgot that feature was on it. Good thing youtube is there for backup!

EDIT: I didn't know about the features on Forbidden Planet. I bought that bluray when it was on sale at some point a couple years ago and just haven't gotten around to watching it. I should probably fix that. I last saw that movie when I was about 8 years old, and I remember thinking it was really boring besides the big electric (fire?) monster. I barely remember it!
