The cast, mostly the young adults, were all great. The scares? Only one for me. Sorry, but naked streakers, do not make scary villains. Pretty disappointed.
were you disappointed by the lack of jump scares?

No, disappointed in how stupid it was. There were jump scares aplenty. None of it frightened me. I did like the actors.

How was it stupid? Last time I checked being scary and being stupid were 2 very different things. I didn't find it scary either.. but I sure as shit appreciate the effort that went into the film and the unique nature it provides as it's loaded with atmosphere and presented a horror film in a way that hasn't been presented in over 2 decades. It's a fun, very enjoyable film regardless of how scary it is. The fact that you can't/couldn't appreciate it beyond the fact that it didn't scare you speaks volumes about your ability to judge what a good movie is.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and I can respect that you didn't connect with the film or find it enjoyable, however to say "it blows" is just incorrect.

I watch a ton of horror movies and almost none of them ever scare me, I find that such a weird way to judge the genre. The more you watch, the more you get desensitized to their tricks, and necessarily the less any will scare you, so eventually you're left not even being able to use that as a metric. This is especially true of anything that you watch more than once. Most of my very favorite horror flicks have never scared me at all in any way, they just succeed at all kinds of other things. Ex Let the Right One In, Dawn of the Dead, The Fly remake, The Exorcist, Dead Alive, etc. If you've watched any horror flick produced in the last 15 years with their endless parades of gigantic audio spikes, flashes of realistic gore and blaring toneless soundtracks you're probably not going to blink at anything from anything produced pre-2000.

The only time I find "not scary" to be a valid end-all criticism is when the movie's going for that as its primary goal (ex one of those Jack-in-the-Box types of movies like Sinister or REC). A lot of them really aren't trying to be "scary" exactly.

I've heard the complaint that it's not scary but how many horror movies are actually scary these days? This movie deserves credit for at the very least attempting to build terror without relying on the common jump scare.

Plus a lot of great horror movies can be borderline funny rather than scary. Blair Witch Project can be scary or just plain funny depending on what time of day and company I see it with.

All I can say is the audience I saw it with freaked out at a lot of scenes, and found it to be pretty haunting.

This post is fantastic and I couldn't agree more. If I wrote off every horror film that I didn't consider scary, there'd be few horror films that I actually liked. I love The Texas Chain Saw Massacre but I've never found it remotely scary. Exhausting, maybe, but not scary. I especially hate it when people use jump scares as a measure of how good a horror film is. 'Ugh, it was so shit, I didn't jump once!' Really!?

I hope they use the poster with the car on it.

The movie is really good but I was initially disappointed by all the hype. However I've been thinking about it for the past week and noticing some "Fridge Horror" things and I think it will be better the 2nd time. I absolutely love the score.

It has been a little over-hyped, but that didn't stop me from enjoying it. I found it original enough in its premise, and the old school score, long takes, extended pans, and avoidance of the shaky cam and cheap jump scares typical of the genre now days sets it apart. I found myself constantly scanning the frame and background looking for amblers.

I voiced "my opinion". I'm really happy for those that actually enjoyed the movie, but please don't use the those that hated it, don't get it. It was pretty simple, you have sex with wrong person, you are haunted you're gonna die. Oh, unless you keep sleeping around. It's as if Final Destination caught a venereal disease.

Movies are great because everyone interprets them differently. You enjoyed it, great. I did not, I'll pass on owning it.

The "not scary" being used as the sole criticism in your last post was what I think most of us took issue with since that can be applied to almost all horror movies, even most of the classics. This post, on the other hand, is pretty funny and a specific-to-the-movie reason why you disliked it that I don't think people can complain about, haha. They should use your final destination sentence on the poster as a pull quote.

How can you function in society being that angry and incoherent all the time? Jeez. If you can't even understand his post there's no way it can ruin the movie for you.

guess i gotta defend myself on the net.. whoppie. Previous posts were on my nexus and I cant type worth a heck on there. yes I am very pissed. There is usually spoiler alerts before wrecking the scenes. Only time I am off this whole week and been wanting to see this. SO excuse me if I am a little pissed of that an above member spoiled it. Glad you enjoyed my language errors. I have read 100s of threads on here and all have a spoiler button to click on to see.
