well at least we know what happened with Willy Wonka.
it got pulled for a "new" 40th anniversary edition.
these others are probably being pulled for similar treatments at different times.
maybe a miracle will happen and Rio Bravo really will be redone.
that would be amazing.
it just needs a better encode, not a whole new master.

I think it does.

The color and contrast problems it exhibits don't come from encoding, but from a botched up transfer.

What is going on with this classic ?

it's been out of print for awhile
the original Blu-ray had mixed reviews
this years is the films 55th anniversary

where is the Ultimate Collectors Edition with a remaster and collectible reproductions from Warners ?
you know like the great Ten Commandments version
we are half way through the year and no announcement

I would love to see Rio Bravo and The Searchers get the UCE treatment

instead we get The Nutty Professor this year
- no offense I like the nutty professor , guess I'm just selfish

on a side note , anyone have the UV HDX version of Rio Bravo ?
If so, how does it compare to the Blu-ray or even the Special Edition DVD ?

Warner typically waits till full milestone years to do re-relases, rather than half ones, unless it's like the 75th or 25th anniversary, etc.. The movie did come back in print last year (or 2012) but it does seem to be OOP again. It's one of my fav. movies, and I personally thought the transfer was fine, but there's room for improvement.

Ya you're right
55th is kinda of odd to do an Anniversary edition

I have the DVD and passed on the Blu-ray multiple times , like an idiot , because of the reviews that said it was as good as an upconverted DVD

And
I didn't realize they re-printed (?) it in 2012
Time for another re-print I think - good grief

Like MifuneFan, I think the Blu-ray looks fine, but most early releases could benefit from remastering and/or new encodes.

I wouldn't pay more than $20 for it, though.

I understand this release is OOP, but I notice that if you go to Amazon you can purchase it from a variety of sellers based in Germany, Switzerland, Netherlands, UK, etc.

Are these releases the same as the OOP U.S. release? Or are these bootlegs and not to be trusted?

Assuming they're from Warner, they're identical. Only differences might be with the languages and subs included. I have the UK release myself, which I bought in a Westerns Collection box set. It looks the same as the US disc.

Unfortunately (or perhaps, fortunately) I grabbed the three-pack including two of those films (TWB/HTWWW) and also The Searchers for $10 back in April, or else that would be an elegant solution for me.

I'll grab this film, one of the European releases I guess, eventually.

It's fairly cheap from Germany, about $17 shipped

I am hoping that Warner took it down for sale in the US because they plan to re-release it for its 55th anniversary this year. I know they put a similar moratorium on Blade Runner before that film's 30th anniversary ed.

I already own the US release. Something tells me WB will re-release it this year in a digibook for the 55th Anniv.

I'd think the German version is multi-region like all Warner releases seem to be.

Guess I'll ride it out a little longer, and see if there's going to be a rerelease.

WHY did it go OOP so fast ? I've seen online posts about it going OOP almost immediately after release in 2007 ?

The majority of posts praised the transfer.

Just so you know, that's the German edition (it is region free). You could get it a little cheaper if you order it off Amazon.de (about $21 shipped at the moment)

They wouldn't today.
I'd go as far as to say it's probably one of the worst looking bds of a "before 1960 classic" released so far by the major studios.

I saw it a year or two ago, and it looked fine to me . It could be much better with a nice 4K scan and restoration, but there was nothing glaring about it to me.
