If the transfer on this version proves to be an improvement, it'd actually be a great idea to sell off the CC version and make a pot of money off some schmu...erm, collector

Yeah saw that. Wish the limited edition would drop by a couple of quid, 'cause right now I'm thinking of saving £6 and going with the standard one...

Yeah, I'm also hoping the French Digibook drops a little, as that's the release I'd ideally like to pick up.

I was hoping HMV would be around that price but it's showing as £16.99 online for the standard edition. With shipping it's still nearly £15 at Amazon so I think i'll probably end up waiting for a drop somewhere. It may take a while but eventually it'll happen. As much as I love the film I've seen it so much that I can easily wait however long to watch it again, especially when there's a wealth of other stuff coming out I'm interested in.

As I've mentioned before on other threads, StudioCanal titles don't generally drop in price and often actually rise in price - especially in the case of restored or Vintage Classics titles. You might be waiting a while for a price drop...my advice would be to pre-order it on Amazon with another pre-ordered item to get free delivery (you could even order it with a pre-order item that is indefinitely delayed or not out 'til next year, wait 'til The Third Man gets dispatched then cancel the other item).

I'm totally happy to wait a while. Like I said, I've watched it so many times I can live without. With the SC stuff sometimes they'll just appear, like The Driver at Zavvi or Dead of Night at Zavvi and Amazon. There are titles coming out all over the place from the UK, US, Germany and it's just not a priority for me.

Same. I'm going to check with my local HMV though. See what their store price is going to be for both.

I hope Studio Canal release Carol Reed's The Fallen Idol next. Everything about it is magnificent.

The online price has dropped to £16.99 for the single disc...I assume it's the same as the store price, for now, but StudioCanal titles are usually £12.99 on release so maybe it's not close enough to release for them to have adjusted the price yet. I basically would like to get the limited set for as little as possible (seeing as I'm actually only getting it for the soundtrack and art cards) but if it doesn't drop before release I might just have to get the single disc...after all, it's the restored transfer we're all after!

If it does drop to £12.99 inshore at HMV and I have it in my hands then I'll consider it. To be honest, I think that's a realistic price for the single-disc version and no more. I think SC are a bit adrift from the real world with their pricing. I understand it's an expensive 4K restoration but they've already released it twice here on BD (three times if you count the steelbook) and they hold rights in a lot, if not all of the major territories so they'll be exploiting it for years to come. I'm sure they'll make back their costs and more over time.

Some reviewers do get some, but I don't think they send a lot of them.

I strongly suspect that this has been double-dipped so many times, that many will wait for a price drop before purchasing.

VHS, LaserDisc, US DVD, UK DVD, UK Blu-ray, Criterion Blu-ray...they really have had their money's worth.

I don't decry them upgrading to a 4K scan, but there you go.

I've never owned the movie before, on any format, so it works out pretty nicely for me.

Nice. Looking at those, the CC release appears coarser. Looks like SC did an excellent job with the transfer from the new restoration.

New SC definitely does look better grain wise and some of the blacks also look a bit deeper. But not a gigantic leap either for a double dip (in my case).

Don't know if I would double dip if I had the Criterion already, while those caps do look a bit better I still don't know it is worth the double dip. I however just have the 2010 SC release and even I am still thinking it may not be worth a double dip because I never thought the 2010 SC was that much worse than the CC version anyway. I don't hard to say, maybe I will grab it
