I wish Sam Jackson would take more ambitious roles instead of playing generic side characters. Back in the 90's he put his stamp on almost every character he played. I want him to get jucier roles that aren't just the ones written by Tarantino because he truly is a terrific actor.

David O. Russell (Joy) is still riding high on the horse as he maintains his #1 status with the Gold Rush Gang’s Best Director predictions for the third month in a row and again by a very large margin; over 20 points ahead of his nearest competitor. That nearest competitor is Todd Haynes (Carol), who manages to move up a bit in the rankings and vote totals a bit despite his film taking a small hit in Best Picture.

Could this finally be his year? 4th time is the charm?

I think the subject matter would make it difficult, but it's possible. Russell isn't super popular in a lot of quarters, too, and that plays into it.

It's a bio-pic in a movie. and they love that. Plus some people have to like him. As he's been nominated for his last 3 films.

Also at the moment. Jennifer seems to be ahead of Cate Blanchett at the moment. But again all these likely don't mean a thing I suppose.

I feel like Carol is going to be the indie darling this year. I'm really looking forward to it as much as anything else that is coming.

I really hope Gyllanhaal is nominated for his brilliant performance in Southpaw.

Watched Hard Eight last night. He's brilliant in that. A similar role to Pulp Fiction but not quite as menacing.

If he couldn't get nominated for Nightcrawler, he certainly won't for this. Mediocre reviews for the movie and an early release don't work in it's favor.

The revenant to sweep with some nods to Southpaw. Maybe jake beats Leo for another snub.

Effects and sound and maybe even original script go to Star Wars.

Also can't ignore Joy. Looks to be another great Russell film with some of the best camera work of all his movies. Maybe another jlaw award.

Hateful eight could make an appearance but we will see. Tarantino is walking the tight rope of hack lately so who knows.

Star Wars movies have 0% chance of getting nominated for writing.

Best Motion Picture of the Year: Furious 7 ... according to Vin Diesel lol.

Jokes aside, I really think See You Again from Furious 7 deserves at least a nomination for best original song if not a win (watch it to go Pixar or Disney though).

Eddie Redmayne will win every acting category for his truly transcendent performance in Jupiter Ascending. Every ceremony from now on will be known as "The Eddies".

Only in a perfect world. Human society hasn't advanced enough to reach that ideal yet.
