Did SF's rights to this title expire? Does this mean we can expect to see Universal release the Psycho sequels on blu ray?

I don't think Universal is giving 'exclusive rights' to SF in their contracts. Thus, many of these titles could be re-issued by Universal, or some could have come before, like People Under the Stairs, Darkman, etc. Shout counts on their loyal fanbase to buy their editions because of their extras and slipcovers. Universal can still release their own versions trying to snag in other customers who don't care about extras and commissioned art.

I've already got the standalone release (not to mention the Limited Edition of the Halloween: Complete Collection), so unless the PQ is significantly improved, I'll likely pass.

With that said, Universal has a history of having concurrent releases of titles with other labels (see: Criterion). |

My hope is that it makes the scream factory one dip in price to compete, I'm more interested in the extras than the movie but not enough to spend 20 bucks

It'll be more film-like just for not going through Shout's encoder, so count me in. The Universal HALLOWEEN II already > Shout's version.
Recently, I bought the Koch (German) version of Benchley's THE ISLAND for cheap (8 Euros) -- it's from the same master, but has none of the encoding issues of the Shout release and has a bit-rate about 10 mbps higher on average. Much better presentation. I'd hope for the same for HALLOWEEN III. Last edited by DMRI2006; 05-20-2015 at 02:35 PM. |
