Just got finished seeing this at home. It is very much a medium 3D for the most part. At times it seems lower with a few moments being higher to a low strong. There were only a few select moments that were almost pop outs. As I said in the other thread (Fathom Events showing) it doesn't benefit that much from the 3D.

The bonus features were basically the same as what was shown at the Fathom event. The teaser sequence for the next season as well as the interview from Wil Wheaton. The interview on the disc is the extended version tho'.

Why does The Time of the Doctor (2012) and The Snowmen (2012) have the same 3-D logo after the title as The Day of the Doctor if they're not in 3-D?

According to the cover art at amazon:

Do you mean the DW in the rough shape of the TARDIS? That was a general marketing thing done for the Matt Smith era - it started between the words Doctor and Who at first then got shunted to the end. Examples of it in the middle -

Yeah, that must be what I meant.

I'm not a fan of the series but I ordered The Day of the Doctor 3-D after reading what you guys have said about it here. See the influence you'll have on me.

imdb says there's an 85 minute theatrical version. Is the blu-ray shorter?

There were a couple of introductions in the cinema which I think IMDB includes in its running time - one is Strax the Sontaran on cinema etiquette and the other is the Doctor(s) telling you about the 3D glasses, neither are on the 3D disc.
They are in the anniversary boxset, but that only includes the 2D version of Day of the Doctor and the intro that talks about 3D is in 2D as well

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that the 3D doesn't impress on this one. At least the previous 3D Doctor Who episode was planned and shot for 3D from the start. This one seemed like an afterthought, so I wouldn't imagine many of the camera angles and effects would be that impressive since 3D wasn't in the director's mind at the time. Ah well...

Personally I was quite impressed by alot of it (especially the titles!) - there's not much in the way of pop-out but depth is good. It's more consistently obvious in the first episode, but there are some good uses in the second too (the rain falling on the cemetery for example).
But yes, there are some times where there would obviously have been different shots chosen if it had been filmed in 3D, and it shows up the weaker bits of CGI (like the Cyber-vapour-trails) more to my eye a bit more.
Was an interesting choice of story to convert in a way, I wonder if that had anything to do with it being Rachel Talalay (coming full circle from Freddy's Dead? )

It actually says just that. There's no finesse to the movie cut whatsoever.

Thanks Hardkore for the info on the 3D. Doesn't sound too bad for the 3D in Dr. Who.

A bit peeved that BBC Worldwide aren't releasing this on 3D Bluray in the UK yet they're releasing a pointless Christmas Specials collection nobody wants.

Why aren't BBCWW doing anything right at the moment?

To add insult to injury, the US Christmas collection advertised at the start of the Dark Water/Death in Heaven Blu includes a sonic screwdriver replica compared to the UK's set of 5 Christmas cards...

A couple of other notes on the Blu, using spoiler tags just in case!

Opening credits:
[Show spoiler]Other than the text saying Dark Water / Death In Heaven they are otherwise those from the first episode, so you don't get the altered version with Clara's eyes etc that were used for the broadcast version of Death In Heaven

Ending:
[Show spoiler]The mid-credits scene with Nick Frost as Santa at the TARDIS door has been removed, most likely as this was done as standalone but I kinda liked it myself!

$6.96 on Amazon. I have the season box set but I figure for seven bucks it makes sense to pick this up since I could always end up getting a 3D tv down the line. If not, it's just $7.

Got this disc at Wal-Mart on BF for $7 as well. As a kid, I watched alot of the old Who.

Haven't seen any of the new modern Who yet, this should be interesting...

DAY OF THE DOCTOR had much stronger 3D. , but I'm sure most Doctor Who fans have that one already.

just discovered this 3D release is a thing that exists, with it being only available in the US do i need to worry about any PAL/NTSC conversion as it's a BBC production?

Are there some conversion issues from original broadcast -- probably some minor issues though nothing of importance that I remember.

No problems with it playing on US players -- as far as I'm aware all Bluray 3D discs are 24p (that may be a requirement)
