Default Doctor Who: Dark Water / Death in Heaven 3D

Doctor Who: Dark Water / Death in Heaven 3D
September 22, 2015 - U.S. Release

Loved "Doctor Who: The Day Of The Doctor 3D" and now Looking forward to this one!

The BBC has an excellent record for producing strong, intense 3D Blu-rays, with examples like tiny GIANTS 3D, or Wings 3D,
Hope the 3D is strong, like it was for Doctor Who: The Day Of The Doctor.

Thanks.
I'll have to see an episode somehow as I haven't seen a Dr. Who episode aside from the 80's with the Dr guy with the curly hair who wears a scarf and brown coat.

Tom Baker is probably my favorite Doctor of them all.

I found Day of the Doctor to be a watch once type affair. I love supporting 3D blu rays and buying all live action releases but i have to make the exception somewhere and as someone who's just not a fan of the show i'll probably skip this.

I have actually watched it several times and enjoy it each time.

Perhaps you are a fan of the show? Unfortunately i am not and whilst Day of the Doctor was perfectly serviceable, it reeks of cheap BBC sci fi still. Being British might actually be a disadvantage for me when it comes to enjoying Doctor Who as i don't think we are very good at science fiction.

Still at least it had good 3D.

Along with Jurassic Park 3D Day of the Doctor is my most watched 3D Blu Ray but I am a fan of the show. However I have just picked up the Blu Ray of Series 8 which as both of the episodes and I don't really think we will get this here n the UK.

Anyone know if this was filmed natively like last time?

If so, good to see BBC are still willing to use the technology when the occasion warrants it. Their trial of 3-D broadcasting was both launched and dropped somewhat prematurely, with unrealistic expectations, and what seemed a very half-hearted commitment.

I don't watch the show, but I picked up Day of the Doctor for a reasonable price. On first viewing I was unimpressed, but I watched it again some months later and found it a lot better second time around.

Although it didn't have the slick sheen of Hollywood blockbusters, I felt the production values were perfectly adequate for what they were trying to do. It did seem a bit 'TV' though. Very talky, and jokey, although not exactly the epitome of British comedy. They seemed to spend half the time babbling nonsense and exchanging funny looks.

But I liked it enough that I'll probably give this new one a chance. I think the new guy is more my style, so that should help.

Basically this is the last two episodes from season 8 (I believe), so I am guessing this will be a post conversion.

Yeah, I would also suppose this is a conversion. When they did Day of the Doctor, they released it in 3D first, I believe. Or at least, it was known to be a 3D production when they were filming. This seems like a 3D afterthought. I don't even remember the episodes well enough to know whether they'll look cool in 3D or not.

Although I actually noticed a couple shots in Day of the Doctor that appeared to be converted. Most of it looked really good, but in a couple shots, the depth seemed slightly off around a couple characters, leading me to believe these might have been reshoots that were done in 2D and post-converted to match the 3D footage. But I have no proof of that other than my eyes noticing some 3D glitches which shouldn't be present in something actually shot in 3D.

well guessing and supposing is all well and good, and you may indeed be right.

But if it wasn't native shot, I'm out. The conversions that impress me tend to be multi-million dollar affairs.

I'd like to think they could've planned ahead for shooting in 3-D given the success they had with the previous show, although there is currently nothing to suggest that was the case.

Yeah, he played a solid role as Dr. Who and I would tune in each weekend. I still remember an episode where he's in a cave and was exploring, as well as the telephone booth for transport. I've only seen clips of the other Doctors.

Yes, JP3D is something great. I have heard the 3D in Day of Dr is also solid. Nice to see they're putting an effort in for the 3D Dr.

Yeah. With Day of the Doctor, I knew they'd filmed it in 3D, so I was in. With this, I'm going to wait to see what reviews and message boards say before I dive in. Conversions can be excellent when they put in some effort (Titanic, Wizard of Oz, Jurassic Park, etc.)… but I'm not really sure how much effort a Doctor Who two-parter is going to get… :-/

They are doing the same thing with this...releasing it in 3D to theaters for a one or two day special showing. Then the Blu-Ray follows. Of course, that does not mean this is not a conversion. But since this is actually 2 episodes of the show (and not a stand-alone as DAY OF THE DR was), one has to assume that it was shot in 2D, with the current 3D conversion being just a result of the success of DAY.)t

If this isn't released in UK too, then I'll be extremely ****** off with the BBC. This is a UK show, not a AMERICAN one. I can understand not giving us the cinema release but we have a right to see the 3D conversion as the native country the show is from.
