I don't think anyone is a box office on their own these days.. Hanks has had his shared of flops lately.

Grossly exaggerate much?

As far as movies go, it is very rare that a movie with a sub 30% critic rating and a sub 50% audience rating isn't a waste of time.

Clearly, the producers knew they had a turd. I'm sure that's why they didn't host any advance screenings until the last minute. That, too, weighed into my decision to pass.

DiCaprio, but yeah that's about it. No one else jumps to mind.

The Bling Ring didn't make money, but it's definitely excellent filmmaking AFAIC.

Is she really the lead in that? I always thought that was more of an ensemble movie. (Haven't seen it.)

She's a lead in it. But I don't see how that has to do with anything.

I mean, Emma's only been in 9 films since the HP movies, including The Circle. I consider 4 of them to be good-to-excellent. And I hear BatB is supposed to be good, even if it's not exactly my style of film.

You asked if she had been in any films that were good or made money. Seems like she has.

Fair enough. Good is subjective, I guess. But box office? Nah, not unless she's latched onto something that's already popular. The point I was trying to make is that you can't really put her front-and-center and expect the movie to make bank.

And for the record, I have no axe to grind. I'm a fan of her, I think she's beautiful and from what I've read of her off-screen work, she's smart and is involves in a lot of good activism work. But she's not a great actress, and as far as being bankable, she's just not.

Cool.

Fact is, not many people who haven't been involved in either comic book movies or Disney stuff in general (or just animated films) have been "making bank" at the box office lately.

These were the Top 10 films from last year:

1 Rogue One
2 Finding Dory
3 Civil War
4 The Secret Life of Pets
5 The Jungle Book
6 Deadpool
7 Zootopia
8 BvS
9 Suicide Squad
10 Sing

Let's face it: All the money these days is in comic books and animation. There's the occasional film like Beauty and the Beast or Fantastic Beasts ... but again, those aren't really aimed at adults primarily either. I'm pretty sure that La La Land was the highest-grossing film that wasn't a comic book movie or animated (or aimed at kids), and it was a musical.

Hidden Figures and Jason Bourne both grossed more than La La Land. (I know you were just guessing, I just thought I'd offer up the numbers )

15 Jason Bourne Uni. $162,434,410
16 Star Trek Beyond Par. $158,848,340

Ahh, OK. Thank you. Yeah, it was just off the top of my head.

Of course, if we start removing franchise titles, the list gets even smaller.

Plenty of actors star in original (as in non-franchise) movies that don't lose money. Unfortunately that's not a skill Emma Watson has mastered.

Emma Watson is a beauty and I do love her in the Harry Potter films. I also liked her in Noah, but is she a great actress? It's debatable. She's no Meryl Streep, but she's decent enough.

Yeah, unless it's deep in your wheelhouse. You are absolutely right.

I was trying to figure out an exception that proves your rule, but even The Counselor has over 30% from the critics.

Cruise maybe?

Anyways, so this apparently too little, too late, as I expected. Even if this was the greatest movie ever, I fear that it would not be enough to get people to start valuing their privacy.

I fail to see why you're you're putting that so much on Emma Watson. 99% of Hollywood actors and actresses haven't mastered that skill. Because it's not a skill.

I still say could have put anyone in BATB and it make a billion. I doubt anyone said I need to go see the new BATB solely for Emma Watson. I know a lot here said she was their least fave thing.

Bet she is regretting not agreeing to La La Land now and acting all high and mighty. Demanding the rehearsals for a movie set and filmed in LA to be in London.

Agree. Did anyone watch The Jungle Book for Neel Sethi? Or Cinderella for Lily James?
Same for BATB. Any actress can be Belle and it would still be a hit.

So then she needs a new agent haha

Anyway, all I was tryna say is that the low RT score for this and the low tracking shouldn't be all that surprising.

Yep. People don't go to movies just because someone they like is in it (besides a few people on here)

Actually, the only interest I have in Cinderella is Lily James.
