If I got home today and my Plasma was gone, I would look at a modestly priced 1080p Sony or Samsung as a hold me over. But would always be waiting for the next big thing.

Man, towards the end of Panasonic Plasmas I could have got a VT60 for a great deal, almost too good to be true and almost pulled the trigger. It just would have sat it in my basement storage room, still in the box, waiting for my current Panny Plasma to die, then unpackage and continue on like nothing happened. Wife would have strangled me in my sleep but I might be kicking myself for passing on that one.

Not really super excited about any option of my plasma goes.

Default OLED into...

I have the Samsung PN63C550. Really happy with it. As the others here, I'll take up on the OLED when it has been fully developed. I would prefer a projection system but don't have the room for it.

Its OLED or projection for me when my plasma goes. Thankfully its looking like the shelf life on the later models is going to be years before I even need to look.

If that were to happen then I would have to explore the options available at that time. As one person already mentioned you could always pick up some cheapo display to tied you over if the tech at the time needed more time to develop and improve.

I am a traitor to the cult of Plasma. I sold mine last year and got a bigger LCD with 3D. Granted, mine was not a Kuro, it was but a lowly LG, but I miss the little guy and the difference in some areas like black levels is clear.

But, my new tv is not bad at all, there are some things I definitely like such as not having to worry about burn in, and to me, 3D is a big bonus.

I will skip the next few years of Tv Wars. By then Bluray 4K will be an established standard, OLED will be in mass production and I may think of upgrading.

You're not a traitor, LED tech have improved a lot. I considered purchasing a LED set before settling on my VT60, the burn - in on my VT60 still bothers me. Also, LED/LCD does have advantages over PDP.

What, meaningful, advantages?

I kind of alluded to it, the lack of burn in or image retention is an advantage that LED has over plasma, as well as, in my own opinion, the brighter display of LED serves me better in brightly lit rooms. I realize many enthusiasts have dedicated HT rooms with either a plasma or a projector where a bright room isn't a factor.

Except you breeze over the fact(and this has been...pointed out) LCD can still burn in.

Plus burn in wasn't as much of an issue with the later plasmas as it was with earlier models.

I jumped on the plasma wagon way too late. Picked up my first a year and a half ago and that was because of all the rave reviews they get on this forum, and because the rumor mill was already going strong that they were going to be discontinued all together. Little did I know what I had been truly missing out on all those years prior! It's only a 51" Samsung, but the difference between it and my old 40" LCD is astounding. Had I been paying attention, I would have sprung for a Panasonic plasma years ago. I only settled on the Samsung because the Panasonics were already sold out, but it's still a great television nevertheless. Perhaps if we all rally hard enough, the tech companies will eventually start making them again for a niche market. You know, like record players!

The one and only advantage LCD/LED had over plasma that I can think of (in rooms where light is hard to control).

Exactly my history, too. I'm in a tiny house and the 51" is big for the space. I love my plasmmie. (Samsma?)

Same here. My 65" ZT60 is just a little too small for my seating arrangement.

I will.... I actually want one now, but the fact is, I really don't need to replace my tv.. it still looks as good pretty much as the day I got it home... now if something happened and it died tomorrow, I still have another year warranty on it and would just replace it with a OLED =P

Yes, but it is generally far, far harder to do.

Trust me, if I wanted to game on my tv, I wouldn't have a vt60. That would just be a problem waiting to happen. As it stands I like gaming with a monitor though at a desk so was a moot point for me.

I went from a Panasonic Plasma to an LG 55EA9800 OLED............to a mid range Sony LED HDTV and I don't regret doing so. The OLED could deliver stunning pictures and amazing black levels, but I found it's flaws outweighed the enjoyment factor. Motion blur was really bad and weak greyscale would result in DSE.

I was really spoiled with plasma technology and the OLED simply didn't feel like a huge step up. Plus, it was terrible for gaming, which I half expected but not to the level it actually performed. I would lose hours constantly fine tuning the settings and never being happy. It's the price you pay with early adoption, I'm well aware it was a first gen LG model and the tech is constantly being improved. I will happily reconsider OLED in a couple of years. I took a substantial loss when I sold it, but the Sony LED I now use provides a great picture, smooth motion and took limited effort to tweak out of the box.

Thank you for that perspective. I would like to hear more from you as you have experience with these various display technologies.

Having said that, I believe the future fate of OLED lies in the hands of plasma owners.
