When will people learn that the resume function is disc related and not player related

It is frustrating as this is supposed to be the superior format, yet it is inferior to DVDs in this regard. It especially sucks when you have a larger collection and you finally get around to watching a blu-ray only to find out it won't play because of a tiny scratch and its outside of the return window.

Rant over.
The actual data is closer to the surface on Blu-ray Disc, that's why the scratch resistant layer was added. The DVD has its data deeper in the disc.

Not "guaranteed" it depends on your player. Some DVD players can't do that.

Agreed. I never had a BD skip audio because of finger prints, but it happened with DVD all the time. Forget scratches, DVDs couldn't even handle prints!

Not always. Sometimes it's crappy cardboard. Studios suck sometimes.

And every time I watch a VHS tape, I'm always struck by how not-bad it looks given the propaganda. Obviously worse than DVD, but not as dramatically worse as you'd think, especially for full-frame 4:3 material.
Agreed on paragraph 1. To paraphrase Doc Brown: with Blu-ray we can see some serious shit.

As for paragraph 2, I hated VHS even though I grew up with it and I still hates it now. Full-frame is one thing but as a widescreen junkie since my earliest teenage years I had to put up with that joke amount of letterboxed resolution for too freakin' long. And in the mid '90s the quality of tape stock seemed to drop though the floor, I got sick of taking movies back again and again and again because they were so poor. I will never mourn VHS' passing. Nevah!

The menu on the Beerfest DVD was awesome. I wish they would have at least put that on the Blu as a special feature.

The same goes for What Dreams May Come. 2 separate menus, Heaven or Hell.

I have Van Wilder unrated on DVD and that menu is cool. I haven't seen if that is carried over to the Blu (because I heard the overall quality was piss poor) but I doubt it.

Yeah, BDs are much more capable of playing despite scratches in my experience. A scratched DVD I almost write-off immediately.

I agree.

I remember the first R2 release of Ghostbusters with the animated menus and the animated scene selections I was blown away!

Now, even though BDs are clearly better I've had unopened titles on my shelf for 5 years.
Wow, what kind of HDTV do you own? The difference is actually pretty huge!!! You may want to check your TV if your DNR setting is off. When I first bought my TV, it was set on by default and I was wondering why the picture wasn't so great. So, I turned it off and was blown away by the picture since then...

Do I want a lovely themed menu with its own little animations etc that are cute the first time but grate thereafter, or do I want a bland but functional cookie cutter layout that gets me to the options as quickly as possible? I've gotta go with the cookie cutter layout, I've gotten used to seeing that Warners menu now.

Yeah, old DVD menus with endless animation and such is so tiresome now. Buffy Season Two is the worst. THE WORST!

Yeah, that's more where it really gets on my tits, when watching something with multiple discs like a TV show or multi movie franchise. Great the first time, after that I just want to get the **** on with it.

You mean the Neflix STREAMING age. I'm still happily in the Netflix disc rental Age, with Blu-ray option.

[Show spoiler]I can't stand streaming and will only have my account for Disc. I sell every Ultraviolet/Digital Copy release I own or are listed for sale so I can buy far more Blu-ray releases.
