Thanks for the input. I think I will go with the bluray and just let the bonus features go for now. I can always pick up the DVD for cheap at some point in the future, and really, the picture quality is what counts, especially for a film like this.

I was asked to be in a test audience for this film as a kid. I remember commenting in the questionnaire they sent around that there were weird lines around things all through the movie (matte lines) and visible strings on things that flew. This is a film that actually might look better on VHS or DVD.

The ending of this film is suspicisouly similar to that of ET...only with diabolical effects work.

I love this movie and liked the sequel.
I have both films on DVD and they are both perfectly watchable, I also bought the digital HDX on Vudu both looked great. If a Blu-ray is oop or it’s an exclusive high priced Blu-ray I’ll go digital and that is fine with me. I missed out on Heaven Knows Mr. Allison so with my recent Amazon Digital Credits I got the movie for free and since it’s MoviesAnywhere I also have it on iTunes and Vudu. We may not like it here but digital is my go to alternative. |

Who would notice if they digitally removed the wires or matte lines? A few minor digital touch-ups (not Star Wars-level alteration) wouldn't make or break the whole company in the grand scheme of things and would not be worse in any ethical sense than the guy who did the fan restoration of A Goofy Movie fixing animation mistakes while undoing censorship.

What's a fair price to pay on 3rd party sights for the 2 movies on bluray ? Joining the club would make no sense for me , There's nothing else I would need that I can't get as standard releases and buying 4 at full price is way too much . I want the Mickey blu-rays but don't need them asap (will be much cheaper at Amazon later) and don't need lithographs .

I'd offer to order and reship them to you, but I'm sure I maxed out of these in the past to get them to forum members. If I ordered only 2 from DMC with the worst VIP discount it would be 37.50+ tax so more than 20 seems unreasonable to me. Of course, it someone made an order with 5-10 other items and just included yours in the pile, the prorated price should be a bit lower If I ordered the 2 Witch Mtn and 2 new M&M with the better B1Get 60% discount then I'd pay 52.60+tax for all 4. $5 shipping more or less (haven't checked rates lately) and maybe a couple bucks for miscellaneous. But that's just me. OTOH -- if you join using the best option then there are only 2 full priced titles required, but if you don't have a handful of 8 you want then the details really don't matter. Assuming you are US -- 6 in the initial order for $13 then 2 items like M&M which are only $21.95 each items and you're all done so paying more than $60 for the 4 you want makes little sense to me since you'd break even just by throwing the other 4 items away or giving them away. Net less if you confiscate the DMI points and Digital copies if any before tossing them plus the Free Intro Dalmatians blanket. There is also a Get in, Get out code that I don't think anyone has tried and especially great if you want Encanto Bluray - 9.95 for Encanto with no further obligations (no blankets, no other extras). Apparently you're considered a Full Member from Day 1. Technically you could quit as soon as it's delivered and be done if the fine print is to be believed. Since nobody had tried it, we don't know what B1 G% discounts it includes or whether Free Shipping is part of the Promo Code. I always thought this code would be perfect for someone that only wanted 4K items ASSUMING the Free Shipping and discounts were equal. Last edited by hariseldon; 03-19-2023 at 05:34 AM. |

Hmmm, I’m trying to remember my first viewing of “Escape to Witch Mountain.” I don’t think I saw it in the cinema when it was first released in 1975, so it must have been when the film first appeared on television a couple of years after that.
I was particularly interested in this picture because I absolutely loved the book by Alexander Key, published in 1968. I must have re-read it many times during my early years, with the author being a special favourite of mine at that age. (Another book of his that I really enjoyed was “The Forgotten Door,” which had themes similar to “Witch Mountain.”) Only in later years did I realise that Key, when writing “Witch Mountain,” was almost certainly influenced by the “People” stories written by Zenna Henderson, starting in the early 1950s. His book could be considered a juvenile version of one of Henderson’s stories. There’s a definite similarity; his plot could easily take place in the world Henderson created. At any rate, whenever I first did see “Escape to Witch Mountain,” I was disappointed. I thought the book was so much better than the movie. Viewing the film today, I probably appreciate it a little more. Oh, I still think the book is better, and I think Disney could have made a better film. Not necessarily by sticking a little closer to the book, but perhaps the plot of the film---and the characters--- could have been fleshed out a little more. Ah well, I’ll still call the picture a solid piece of entertainment, and it has that certain nostalgic pull as well. The only real drawback is some terrible optical effects, seen primarily near the end of the film. There really is no excuse for special effects to be that bad---even in 1975, the studio could have and SHOULD have done much better. Kim Richards is one of the juvenile co-stars in this picture, and I remember seeing her in all sorts of projects throughout the 1970s; she was very active as a child actress. In more recent years, she is primarily known for appearing on the infamous “Housewives of Beverly Hills” reality series, along with her younger sister Kyle. |

I have these blu-rays , But just noticed something odd on Apple TV , There in HD HDR , Is that a misprint ? Is there such a thing of a HD HDR that's not 4K ? Is it better then the Disney blu-rays .
I also noticed there is a lot of stuff like Peanuts movies and shows that are in 4K DV but you can't buy them , They want you to subscribe . |
