Same. I think it's one of the best movies of the last decade. Made for a relative pittance as well.

UNDER THE SKIN is so different (in a good way) it made me feel I was watching something DIRECTED by an extraterrestrial, it didn't feel like boxes getting ticked off.

It reminded me of a modern Kenji Mizoguchi film, with a little Kubrick seasoning for taste. I loved it!

But adding my 2 cents
Hollywood has always done remakes but the past few years it seems that's all they have to offer The next generation will only be offered remakes of remakes imo

Can anyone even name a film out recently that isnt a sequel, remake or part of a franchise [or will be]

My biggest pet peeve is that we are seeing so many of the same types of movies (and actors) but people keep buying into them to allow for more of the same thing. It's pretty sad that a beautiful, outside-the-box movie like The Walk is left for dead while yet another inspirational spaceman movie gets the big money.

The one (actually two but we're going to keep getting military vs. aliens movies as four more Transformers movies got announced last week) subgenre that really needs to die is the inspirational football movie. How many ways do we need to be told that getting knocked around by 350 pound linemen is the ultimate path to redemption/peace/a new car/etc.?

The Walk is utterly pointless though. Just watch Man on Wire to see the story. You say The Martian is just another inspirational spaceman movie, well The Walk is just another remake essentially. Any movie you list can have a label thrown on it.

This is why I have no interest in The Walk I don't need to watch a fictionalised version of this story, but saying that if a director I liked more say Scorsese directed it I would've seen it

1.) The PG-13 rating and how every studio's desire to hit that magical rating has completely diluted the waters of grittiness in film!

2.) How the Comic Book genre has all but killed the action hero genre!

3.) The running time in films have gotten way out of hand. I miss the days when you could go see a great action film that was over in under 2 hours. Seriously is editing even a part of the movie making process anymore?

4.) How it seems that EVERY film is now made to set up a sequel or trilogy! Can't we just have stand alone films anymore?

5.) Too many damn remakes!

6.) Too many "perfect" looking actors and actresses. I realize that Hollywood has always embraced physical beauty, however the thing I love the most with a movie like Jaws is how all the actors in that film look like regular, everyday people. I wish we could see more films like that. If Jaws were made today, Chris Hemsworth would play Matt Hooper, Hugh Jackman would play Quint, Officer Brody would be played by Chris Pratt , Scarlett Johansen would play his wife, and the mayor would be played by George Clooney!

7.) I'm so tired of "complex" villains! Sometimes I just like the morality in film to be cut and dry. Bad guys are bad guys because they're simply evil mother****ers! I don't want to hear about some long complex back story that tries to explain an antagonist's psyche. Just show me they're evil. That's really all I need to know sometimes.

8.) The use of specific color palettes in movies have gotten way out of hand. What happened to just making films with a true to life color pallette? Why did Hollywood become so in love with teal and orange?

9.) Adventure films have all but gone extinct! Spielberg is still putting out amazing stuff but sometimes I kind of miss his days of making films like The Goonies, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T., etc. His work with the animated movie Tin Tin was probably the last solid adventure movie I remember watching.

10.) M. Night Shyamalan. The fact that Hollywood studios continue to financially support this hack blows my mind! Can someone please take this guy's crayons away from him!

11.) Director's insistence to work with the same actors over and over, regardless of whether they're right for the part or not. Hey Spielberg and Ron Howard, I know Tom Hanks is a great actor but does he HAVE to be in everything you guys direct?

I loved Man on Wire too but The Walk is a really good companion piece. Sure it will never top James Marsh's film but Zemeckis never intended to.

In a way, it's like the two Solaris movies: drawn from the same story but different in many ways while still respecting the story and its subjects.

Maybe these are problems that have been around for a while, but I still think they're the biggest issues holding back Hollywood

1) The suits behind the scenes who tinker with everything to try and make the film as attractive to as many people as possible - instead of just trying to make it good.

2) Movies that appeal to the lowest common denominator. Hollywood is a business. And like any business, they want to appeal to as many different types of customers as they can. So they make trashy films like Movie 43 because they know the world has sizeable population of crackheads who will take to a liking of such a movie.

The problem is talented young directors and writers could have been given Movie 43's resources - instead Hollywood used all those resources to fund trash for trashy people. Trashy people do not deserve to have trashy movies made for them.

3) Not enough 'inbetween' films. It seems everything is either a 200m blockbuster or a tiny oscar bait talkie.

Instead of giving the Wachowski's 200m for Jupiter Ascending, they should have given 50m to four separate promising directors and writers - and let them create four original movies. There only needs to be 4-5 200m films a year, not 10+.

4) Hanging on to trends for too long. Im usually the last person to bash all the amount of Superhero movies coming out, but Hollywood will no doubt run the genre into the ground. This has already happened in the past, look at the awful Clooney/Kilmer Batman sequels or Reeves Superman sequels. Instead of realizing its time to scale back on a trend, lust for money will push Hollywood to keep trying to milk a dead cow, which produces bad movies. If the comic book movie trend dies, it will be because Hollywood tried to force the genre to maintain its current massive popularity, instead of accepting its inevitable return to being just another genre.

Theres more, but typing all this is meaningless, so I'll stop

I would agree with this post along with the theory of "Hollywood Confidence." What Hollywood thinks of as a "Sure Thing," due to director, screenwriter, or actors involved, isn't so much these days anymore. Why did Disney's Pan fell flat or failed so badly this weekend? Why has Disney been credited with several "flops" within the last 3-4 years? When were speaking of actors/actresses, "Name recognition" surrounding a Hollywood film doesn't guarantee future success or partnership these days. Film making is truly all about screenwriting an "Original" or "Adapted" story into a well developed film, to be shown on the silver screen. Maybe Hollywood studios should look into having "focus groups" that critique and analyses every possible film/script that they can get their hands on; Just because Johnny Depp or Hugh Jackman are involved within a production of a film doesn't necessarily guarantee success or future profit; I may just lead someone into writing a similar story that gains more attention and becomes more successful. How about we write a story similar to that of Interstellar and Gravity and call it The Martian

They should have done this with the budget for Batman v Superman

You do realize The Martian is an adaptation of a novel, right?
