I want to order that so badly (haven't really watched it since I saw it in the theater) but I already have a few other pre-orders next week, a horror convention to go to this weekend, and a myriad of other things sucking the money out of my bank account.

Default Australian DVD Release, Local Release, Blu-ray Transfer.

Will there will be an official release in other territories?

I hope for a local release as that $39 is $54 Australian dollars, and that's not including postage, which is a little bit to rich for me. But being a born sucker I'll probably cave soon enough so until then this will have to do -

Its got two commentaries (first with Russ Meyer, and second featuring the Pussycats: Tura Satana, Haji, and Lori Williams), a decent making-off featurette (Go Pussycat Go) that goes for 25 minutes, and lastly the original theatrical trailer. The transfer isn't bad for what it is, a DVD, but I hope for a beautiful blu-ray transfer despite the limitation of the budget.

I do agree that the pricing and shipping costs are outrageous for this title!!! However, I can't wait to have it. I know that the pricing won't really fluctuate anytime soon, so I took the bait. It's a rare title that gets me to do this.

I bought this film on VHS and laserdisc, and the price was always around $50. Russ Meyer was an independent filmmaker without the broad retail base of the major studios, so his films have always been more expensive. But for this particular film, it's well worth it. I ordered it. Can't wait. Image and sound quality in RM releases has always been top notch too. He took very good care of his film elements.

I can wait for either amazon to carry this or a sale on it, I am not paying $50 for one film. I can be patient having just watched this movie a month or so ago

The price stings me, but I just pulled the trigger on pre-ordering the Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! Blu-ray.

I've always wanted this one in my collection.

Arrow's 18-film Meyer box set cost me half of what the Estate is asking per DVD.

So did I. When Russ was alive, I never begrudged him those exorbitant prices because I felt it was supporting his always soon-to-be-released next film (or his multi-volume bio at that time). But towards the end and after he died, I lost that confidence that the money went to support the films.

I was always amazed at how accessible he was. I mean what other filmmaker answers their own phone and talks to virtually anyone about his films?

Indeed. He and I became "phone friends" when I was working for Tower Records/Video, and would talk occasionally on the phone for several years thereafter. He was always fun to talk to. For the longest time I would ask him about updates on the (10- to 12-hour biopic) "Breast Of Russ Meyer" and over time it went from "it'll be coming along soon" to "I'm focusing on the book version and will get to it later" to "I may never finish the damn thing!"

Had I been a close friend of his, I would have kept badgering him about it until he finished editing it!

Would love to add this to my collection but will wait for reviews first.

Any chance this gets licensed by someone in the U.k.? Like Arrow?

I saw a review of this film on youtube and it seems to be cool, especially because of the japanese (?) girl who kicks ass as they said.

Have just dug out an old review from 11 years ago we wrote the the UK DVD release. Here is the top & tail of it, and hope it will help convince those not in the know that it is, indeed, very cool.

"It's the poster that has adorned the walls of may a student bedsit, regardless of whether they had seen it or not, but the image of Tura Satana breaking the spine of a he-man with the business end of her boots is certainly an iconic image for a movie that became a legend, and 1966's Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill! is worthy of all the cult kudos it has garnered over the years.

...

Ultimately, Faster Pussycat, Kill! Kill! is a one of a kind movie that will more than merely live up to your expectations - it will present you with a involving story of multifaceted inhumanity which most viewers would never have expected, given the notoriety that the title has created over the last four decades. A seriously strong contender for the best movie Russ Meyer ever made, this is a movie that really should be watched, enjoyed and discussed over a drink or two."

Everyone who likes Death Proof - for any reason, but especially for the phony excuse that it "empowers" women - needs to see this film. Russ Meyer was more of a feminist than any male working today.

Purely on the surface, anyway. The depiction of powerful women was purely his fantasy. Meyer was always very frank about his feelings about women, and a quote from him in a piece by David K Fraiser summed it all up:

"I am chauvinistic. I don't care to have business with women in the film game. There are no Hollywood [big-wigs] that are women. What does a woman know about sexuality anyway? They are the receivers, they're the catchers. You've got to be able to pitch. These are the things I feel. The woman's place is in the bedroom and the kitchen, and that's it as far as I am concerned. Let her be a sex-object. Have fun with her. That's how I feel. By and large, if I'm with friends and they're with their wives, the wives are secondary. I really don't embrace them."

The politics of it all are best left at the door.

Yes, I should have said the film itself, rather than the man.
