With Scream re-releasing plenty of MGM titles that were previously released. Is there any indication that they'll release the original film in the future or not? I'd like to know for sure, before I decide to pick it up sometime.

Regarding Species 2. It's a hilarious trash film that I saw in it's original release, and was close to being kicked out of the theater, since I was trying so hard to contain my laughter. So I went into the hallway and broke down, then ventured back into the theater thinking I got it out of my system, only to have the giggles start creeping back again, so off to the hallway again. Then eventually, I was able to contain myself for the rest of the movie. Then I fell down on my knees in the lobby laughing so hard, I couldn't breath. I miss films like this getting theatrical releases.

I did see part 3 a year or two ago and it was okay. It's not nearly as awful as people here make it seem. Part 4 is apparently much worse from the reports. So color me surprised, that part 3 was watchable at least.

I would imagine if MGM were willing to license Species it would have come now, not later. I would guess if that ever gets a remaster MGM will release it themselves.

None of the sequels are as good as the first film but they're still entertaining imo.

Species II was supposed to be a Collector's Edition at one point according to Scream; I wonder why they changed their minds? Sure, it's not really deserving of a Collector's Editon (IMO), but they commissioned new art and made tons of extras, so they might of well have made it a Collector's Edition and charged a few bucks more.

Has anyone noticed the pixilation in Species II? Or did I get a bad disc?

I'm about to watch it before bed, but compression issues in a Shout title wouldn't be that surprising, let's be honest. Also is that alternate cover a Shout-made one? I don't remember seeing it before, it looks like a Scream Factor CE cover.

That's why I order from Scream Factory directly. I've had my copies for more than a week already.

They aren't compression artifacts. The closer I look at them, I realize that I probably have a faulty disc.
Can someone let me know if they see any fairly alarming pixilation?

Watched this last night. It is definitely a noisy transfer, there's a good bit of noise in a variety of scenes, but I didn't notice any pixels or obvious compression artifacts. The blacks did look "jumpy" at times in the special effects shots, but I don't think that was compression. Maybe if your gamma is too low it would look like it. The transfer overall is pretty disappointing though, due to the noise, the lack of detail in distant and effects shots and perhaps most annoying a video style look with boosted colors and a lack of film quality. Doubt we ever see this movie looking better though.

Movie was bat-shit insane fun, just as I remembered. I would never call it good, but MAN, if exploding uterus babies and lines like "I'm going back to Africa on their asses" appeal to you then buy this now, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for checking! I've ordered a replacement. It looks to be a faulty disc, for sure. The folks at Scream Factory are awesome!

Watched the Species 2 special features last night and they are very worthwhile. The writer interview and special effects interviews are extremely blunt, casual and revealing. Quite a lot of funny anecdotes and behind the scenes stories. Henstridge's interview is more a normal puff piece but still interesting and worth watching.

Also watched Species 3. Well, watched it for an hour and then half-watched it for 50 minutes. It's really terrible, cheap and boring without any craziness or fun. It takes itself SUPER seriously, which is the worst thing a b-movie can do. Total excrement, probably gonna sell that set. Shame. Video looks pretty good for the source, but the source is flat, poorly shot and boring.

They both say unrated Kulas.

I've owned the digital HD copies of both Species II and III for years on Vudu but they only had 2-channel stereo audio so now with the BD's I can have both HD sound and video. I'll wait until the prices come down more for now though.

Totally agree about Species III. I can't stand that film. While I didn't like II nearly as much as the original, at least it was a fun watch. Species III just bored me to death, and this is coming from someone who enjoyed The English Patient.
I really like Species - The Awakening, and IMO it's by far the best sequel. It's not as good as the first, but it's a big improvement over II and especially III.
