Is this as good or better than Club Dread? I thought that one was one of the better "love letter" to slasher movies. Plus, it's rated R with plenty of gore and boobs.

Finally got around to seeing it, and my reaction is... good enough.

There are some good ideas there, but they never really do anything with it and stuff just sort of happens. Was expecting a bit more in terms of the writing.

Speaking of the writing, here's a bit of trivia - the screenplay for "The Final Girls" was co-written by Joshua Miller, who played Homer in "Near Dark" and the extremely annoying little brother of Robyn Lively in "Teen Witch".

Yeah, it was not as good as I was hoping it would be. I feel like if it had been rated R, they probably could have made if funnier.

I was just expecting more from it. In the first flashback, I thought one character would try to stop the bullying to prevent Billy Murphy from becoming an unstoppable killing machine and thus save everyone from dying including their friend, but everyone just stood around and watched. And that's pretty much how the rest of the movie felt to me.

All it is supposed to be is a fun homage. Its no different than if it were one of the real movies being shown on tv. Just because it isn't an "R" doesn't mean it couldn't have been better. I and my friends all love it and think it is perfect!

Some of you are just too critical of fun movies!

I did not care for this. And it wasn't because it wasn't rated R and I couldn't see gore or boobies, I just didn't find it especially clever or funny.

I don't really care about the R rating for nudity or violence, I just thought the jokes seemed restrained. Not that you necessarily need to go explicit to be funny, but certain movies like Deadpool benefit from it and I felt like this movie could have been funnier if the jokes hadn't been watered down to PG levels. This could have been the next Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, but instead just felt like it had been neutered.

Watched this a few weeks ago and I thought it was average with a few good scenes. I liked that it paid homage to the old slasher films so i will watch it again.

Totally agree, the whole time I was thinking this is good but if it were rated R it could have been much better. Given the subject matter, PG-13 is a head scratcher. Also some of my favorite characters were killed off too soon leaving just the boring ones.

I didn't realize until AFTER the film ended that it was PG-13. Well played.

Yea had it been rated R it would've been a much better movie I feel. It was ok but not really something I'd personally want to own.
