Apparently, this came out a week earlier, cause I got my copy from Amazon last Tuesday (Oct 27). Or maybe they just effed up, but whatever.

This movie had an interesting idea, but as a meta take on slasher films, I think it should have been R-rated. I rented it on Vudu and I think one viewing was enough. It's not as good as Tucker & Dale vs. Evil or Cabin in the Woods, but it's still a decent rental. It's funny that one of the actors, Alexander Ludwig, was also in another movie this year called "Final Girl."

I just picked this up from Redbox. Was going to blind buy but the PG-13 is worrying me a little...

There is nothing to worry about. It being rated R would not have made it any better. A little blood and some nudity do not make movies better. It's great how it is.

Quite an entertaining movie with a dark sense of humour. It seems it's a polarizing movie in general tho

Decent movie but $20 is a bit steep for an indie movie without an extra dvd, slipcover, or digital copy. Plus it's Sony and their genre movies always drop fast so I don't know if I should wait or not.

This movie seems right up my alley, but $20 is too much for a blind buy, and Redbox only got DVD for it =/

I'm on the fence about buying The Final Girls.

I keep thinking that I'll get a kick out of it, since I own and love the following films from the "golden age of slashers"...
[Show spoiler]Halloween
Halloween II
Friday the 13th
Friday the 13th: Part 2
Friday the 13th: Part 3
Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter
My Bloody Valentine
Happy Birthday to Me
Just Before Dawn
Graduation Day
Prom Night
Dressed to Kill
Sleepaway Camp
Terror Train
The Burning
The Slumber Party Massacre
Madman
Visiting Hours
The Final Terror
Curtains
New Year's Evil
Final Exam
The House on Sorority Row
Death Valley
Sweet Sixteen
Sorority House Massacre

On the other hand, though, a lot of the newer comedies are lost on me.

Eh, I'll probably go for it.

I saw this twice theatrically. The first time I kind of liked it but thought I'd like it more that I did. I knew my brother would love it so we went to see it a few weeks later.

It's solid and fun, but it's missing something. It's a fantastic premise with a really good emotional hook and the performances are great all around. That should be enough for me to recommend it. That said, for a supposed homage to 80s slasher flicks, it's missing something. The lack of blood and nudity is somewhat of a shame, not because either would necessarily make the movie better, but because they were so prevalent in the films being referenced. I've heard someone say something like "it's as though the director had never seen any of the movies being homaged" and I'd have to kind of agree with that.

The other problem I had was the ending. I won't say much, but the ending bugged me. Maybe if this thread takes off a bit, we can get into it. I'm interested to watch the original ending on the blu, but I'm not expecting it to change my opinion).

There are some great scenes and great lines so I'd still say 'see it'...on paper this should've been my favourite movie of the year and while I liked it, I'm a little let down. (That said, some of my friends who aren't as into horror as I am seemed to like it more than I did).

Sounds more like a grounded version of Scary Movie where they stick with the one type of horror film, eliminate the slapstick goofy jokes and rely on a clever premise.

I've only seen the trailer so far, kind of surprised they went with the PG-13 route because I can imagine this movie would be killer if they had embraced the R rating. They could have at least filmed it so they could release an "uncut" version on the home market, doesn't take much to add in the CG blood like most films do nowadays, even though practical effect blood looks so much better.

I found this pretty disappointing. It's the type of film to get plenty of online hype because it does a lot of horror fanboy/girl pandering, but the concept is better than the execution. The cast is game but the film is never nearly as funny or smart as it thinks it is. I also think a good horror comedy works best if at times it takes its horror elements seriously, which this never does which makes it feel quite toothless. Nowhere near in the same league as Scream or Cabin in the Woods, which covered similar ground far more successfully.

I thought it was great. I don't know if it was rated at the world premiere. While more gore would've been cool, it's not essential. Shame this review basically glossed over the extras. No real commentary on them, just a list.
