I'm thinking it will. I'm not using it for that reason, I'm using it for the HDCP 2.2 capability so I can connect to to a non HDCP 2.2 port on my SOny Speaker Bar. But it does send the audio through that way.

So after reading what seems like thousands of posts about the new Ultra 4K Blu-Ray players, I have a few questions. I looked up the stats on my tv and learned that only the MHL port on my tv has HDCP 2.2, is HDMI 2.0 not 2.0a, and has a lower subsampling ratio than my other HDMI ports. What would I be missing out on with those options? Can they be firmware upgraded? Will HDR work? TV is Samsung UN65HU8550.

My current 4k bd player does upscaling. Will I need a new one to play 4k blurays? Like the Samsung one that's out already for $400.

I've been staying out of the 4K hullabaloo until recently. Getting a 4K player as a gift (giftcard) since I'm an audio video nerd and want to make sure I can actually play an Ultra HD Blu-ray with it on my equipment. I have a Yamaha HTR 7065 receiver which claims 4k pass through and Monoprice Redmere cables which supposedly support 4K at 60hz...(they're the Cabernet Ultra cables) and of course a JVC RS-46 projector (the weak link as like playing a 1080p Blu-ray on a 720p display, but that will be upgraded last). any conflicts in the signal chain? I haven't kept up with the needs of HDCP 2.2 etc so I'm not sure if it will be a nightmare or just plug n play with that in mind
what's more annoying is trying to find an ACTUAL 4K blu-ray player among the plethora of players that say 4K ultra HD on their descriptions for a decent price only to find out that they're freaking UPSCALING players Last edited by wormraper; 02-23-2016 at 08:26 AM. |

I think you'll be able to play a UHD bluray, but only at 1080p, as your projector only has 1.4 HDMI inputs. |

yeah, I knew that, it was just going to be a stop gap until the JVC or Sony PJ offerings drop a LITTLE more... just wanted to make sure there wasn't some horrible DRM in the chain that would stop everything in it's tracks kind of like the whole analog to HDMI turnover back in the day when hooked up to a "plain" 1080 display

I have the Samsung 60" UN60JU6500 series 4k TV.
Will the samsung 4k player work on my tv? Like can I just hook up the 4k player to my tv via HDMI and start watching 4k blu rays in 4k? Last edited by Wingspan; 02-24-2016 at 07:49 PM. |

No HD audio for any streaming device.
At best its DD. ARC will only get you 2ch regardless of input so if you want the best sound run two HDMIs out, one for the display and one for any AVR. No real need to get a 2.0 model that might not even work that well anyway just yet. (unless you need an AVR then go ahead) Just read the review posted here to see what I mean. https://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=18524 |

I have the next model up the 6700, and I have been waiting for the same answer. My guess is ours might work. But i'm going to wait until next year to get the newer players.

Hi folks. This seemed to be the best place for me to post this. I've been toying with my 4K setup using the Roku 4 as my primary source (before running out to buy a 4K disc player).
What I wanted to share was my workaround for the ridiculous HDCP 2.2 component chain, where if one component in the chain is not HDCP 2.2 compliant, NO 4K! I could rant about this all day, but I won't do that here. My original component connections using the ROKU 4 was: Roku 4 -> DVDO Quick6 HDMI switch -> Pioneer Elite sc-67 (which claims 4k passthrough) -> LG 79UB9800 (4K TV w/ HDCP 2.2) Essentially the only things in the chain that were HDCP 2.2 complaint were the Roku 4 and the TV, and as is, this setup did not allow 4K video to the TV. A bevy of different results, but definitely none that showed 4K (except the screensaver, which is likely because it's not HDCP protected). After some research there seemed to be a few options out there for components that would address this, most around $100 or more. I did find on Amazon a few Orei HDY 4K splitters and switches that claimed to correct the HDCP 2.2 issue. Having no desire to buy a splitter for this, the one switch on the site (5x1) was out of stock and no availability date. However, there's one Orei HDY-301 ($30), in stock, but only has the specs for only 1080p. Taking the risk, I bought this, and to my pleasant surprise it is a 4K switch and does correct the HDCP 2.2 restriction. My setup now is: Roku 4 -> Orei HDY-301 -> DVDO Quick6 HDMI switch -> LG 79UB9800 (4K TV w/ HDCP 2.2) With this I can get 4K to the TV from Roku4. Looks great! I had to pull the receiver from the equation for the moment, because despite it claiming to be able to pass 4K, it does not. I have an e-mail out to Pioneer to discuss this. The nice thing about the DVDO Quick6 is that I can send just audio to the receiver and still get lossless audio. So the short of this is that the Orei HDY model switches and splitters may do the trick if you are battling HDCP 2.2. Hope this will help someone else down the line. P.S. don't go to the Orei website, it seems to be littered with viruses. |

The new HD Fury supposedly does the same thing. Of course there is always the disclaimer that these devices are technically breaking US copyright laws so I'm not sure what is the current bluray.com policy on talking about devices that bypass HDCP. Also HD audio is only from disks and not any internet streaming service. ![]() |
