The editor should definetly be on the list. Of course it has some fun at the giallos expense but it does it with obvious love.

It's already included in the OP.

Darn, I knew this whole thread would disintegrate into a dogmatic slugfest as to what is and isn't giallo. Just relax, folks, and let frakking toaster get this thread off the ground before taking shots at him.

Yes, there are non-Italian movies included and movies that are technically not gialli, but which can be argued to be borderline or have the "atmosphere" of a giallo (Perfume of the Lady in Black is giallo-like for 80-90% of the movie, for instance). I think most of us recognize that a movie can be something that isn't giallo, yet still give us the same ticklish feeling inside that a good giallo does, regardless of genre conventions or country of origin.

So how about we let those movies have a place in the list as well? "Gialli and those that ought be gialli" or something like that.

Inferno and Suspiria are not gialli. Phenomena IS....

This should be reserved for Italian films only. Otherwise every thriller belongs in here, including Basic Instinct.

Stagefright - not a giallo, though it has some elements. It's a slasher film where you know who the killer is the whole time.
Black Cat - not a giallo. Has elements.

Amer - not Italian, though it's a tribute to. Saying this is a giallo is like saying Django Unchained is a spaghetti western. Same with The Editor.

It has every element of a giallo...just because there's a telepathy angle doesn't mean it isn't.

Who is taking shots at him? We are just talking about giallo. The whole point of this thread. You say let the thread get off the ground first but then go right into joining the conversation about what is and isn't a giallo. take your own advice and relax! I mean that in the nicest way possible.

The editor was already on there, that was the one thing I hadn't heard of. Oh, that and the TT release of La Bambola Di Satana, which sounds like it's a bad movie!

that's true... doesn't Giallo by definition state that these are Italian made psycho slashers to begin with?

Yeah, but it's kind of like Spaghetti Westerns where you will get a couple films that for all intents and purposes are the exact same style (for Spaghetti Westerns an example would be Cutthroats Nine) but came from a different country, and thus a bunch of people will qualify them and a bunch of other people won't. All up to personal choice. Let the OP do what he wants!

Don't feel like anyone is taking shots at me. If anything I will add a second list of euro horror titles and giallo inspired titles. At work now so I will probably get to this later tonight.

I wasn't going to add Suspira and Inferno at first but I just watched the Yellow Fever documentary on the Tenebrae blu ray and they kept referring to them as gialli so I figured why not? I do stand by putting Amer and The Editor on this list though.

This is a wonderful thread for me, as someone who is familiar with the genre, but has not really explored it. Rather than debate whether Suspiria is giallo or not, it might be fun to hear opinions on what the top 10 Must See or top 5 Must Own giallo movies are.

(Also, is there a similar thread for the Slasher genre? With swell releases like Pieces and Mutilator burnin' up the charts, it would be fun to read about favorites in that genre, aside from the usual Jason/Michael/Freddy.)

MORE of them, you mean? If there's one genre that gets talked about to death on this forum, slashers are it!

I'm no Giallo expert, I've only seen about 25 of them, but my current top 10 would be:

1. Don't Torture a Duckling
2. Lizard in a Woman's Skin
3. Bird with the Crystal Plumage
4. The Psychic
5. The Girl Who Knew Too Much/The Evil Eye (AMERICAN VERSION, I greatly prefer it to the Italian)

6-10 are tied:
Short Night of the Glass Dolls
Le Orme
Tenebrae
Strange Vice of Mrs Wardh
What Have You Done to Solange

Torso's last 30 minutes is probably my favorite Giallo-related thing, I just really don't like the first hour very much! Deep Red could also be swapped in that last group, I have a hard time deciding between it and the other 6-10. I like pretty much every one I've seen, though, besides Strip Nude For Your Killer and The Night Evelyn Came Out of the Grave.

Me neither. Weird he did image tags instead of BD links. I will have to look those all up.

Thumbs up

Nice thread!

For further reference, this same subject has a thread in the UK sub-forum too. I don't think it has been active for awhile, but it does have some more info you could add into the OP: Italian Giallo & Euro Horror Blu Ray.

Code Red just announced Lamberto Bava's Delirium (1987).

TOO MANY GOOD ITALIAN STUFF COMING OUT OF OTHER LABEL! Time for CODE RED to pay the same high fee and give you guys a lesser movie.!

MEGA BUCKETLIST FEVER I

BUCKETLIST #11 Delirium !

a former hooker (Serna Grandi) running a successful men's magazine. An obsessed admirer systematically slaughters her models (occasionally increasing the magazine's output) and supplies the mistress with pictures of their disfigured corpses taken in front of her semi-nude posters visible in the background. Is she going to be the psycho's next victim?
