No BvS was not bad. It was fantastic imo.

I've been checking the show times at various theaters around here. Some/most of them have all of the 3D showings in the evening/night time, while all the 2D is afternoon time. Not everyone that goes to the movies at nights wants 3D. That is just bad management,or they want the movie to fail

To my point: I don't let reviews sway me.

They schedule the kids' movies for the 3D theaters during the day.

Thanks for the review!

If ghosting is present I understand that it needs to be mentioned for accuracy of the visual experience, but I always find it sad when it is probably a theater dependent artifact which can affect the visual accuracy of the review if the 3D encode is actually pristine.
I have the same digital-projection problems at my local IMAX.
The size of the IMAX image may be superior, but the difference in projection-artifact-quality is no better than at my local cineplex.
Looking forward to getting a ghost-free image on the passive direct-view OLED at home if it is eventually released on Blu-ray 3D.

I noticed that too, where show times are later in the day or night for the 3D.

Yeah, the main thread has a few that won't give a movie a chance based on the idea of a remake alone. The thing is, the original will remain classic regardless of how many remakes there are, and if anything, it points back to the original films anyway as a bonus. This is just a modern retelling of the classic story.

Like a lot of modern 3D films, the 3D tends to be more conservative in dialogue scenes (though some close-ups actually had really impressive sense of depth), but ramps up for the action sequences, and it was some really impressive POV shots in the ship battle and the chariot race scene that made the 3D experience, only pop-out elements I noticed were some rain and snow, and dirt/debris in the chariot race.

Movie itself was fine enough though had some lulls, but if you compare it to the 1959 film (which I get it is not technically a remake of as the producers don't have the rights to that film, rather an unrelated adaptation of the public domain source novel) it lacks in basically every category: acting, writing, directing, music, even cinematography and sense of epic scale.
Thanks XBS. I don't know if I'll get to see this in 3D based on the situation, but may check this out for the heck of it.

Hey Levcore. Got to check this movie out and was entertained it as it kept my interest. When my mind was about to wander, the movie kept pulling my attention back to it. Good pacing even though it was a slow build up story. I liked the performance of the Ben Hur role and his wife, and the brother too.

Only bad news is those I went to see it with wanted to see the earlier show, which was 2D only. Good to hear the 3D was generally good though, with some stronger 3D shots here and there it sounds. Watching it in 2D, I would say a lot of the first person camera shots of Ben Hur in the boat, underwater, nearly getting trampled by the horse hooves, those were probably great 3D shots.

Since my off days (nights) are split this week ,I ended up going to see Ben-Hur 3D during the evening/night. I had the whole theater room to myself. Then again, when I got there (45 minutes early) ,there were not that many people there anyhow. Don't know if it is usually like that at night or what.

The 3D was very consistent thru out from beginning to end. It was a bit of medium to medium-strong. It has some fast action and quick cuts that blur scenes/3D which hurts some of the viewing of it ,but there is not so much to hinder the movie as a whole. Plus,I did not get sick from the 3D.

All in all, a good movie, loved it. They did completely omit a couple of segments. It did not affect the general story line but simply cut the running time down.

This is definitely a day 1 buy for me.

Only 1 3D trailer with this...Doctor Strange. That had some seriously cool 3D in it. If the movie is as strong as it was,it could be epic!

It would be for me too...if they were going to offer it. Looking at the current Amazon listing, it would appear that they aren't.

You can thank Kevin Feige for that. He kept talking about how the 3D will be used for storytelling.

Give it time. The movie only even came to the theater this weekend. So far nobody has the 3D Blu for pre-order.Eventually someone, even over seas, will likely have it. Plus there are only a few listings for DVD and Blu.

Hearing this has worthwhile medium to strong 3D makes me consider this for blu ray 3D when it's released, as the movie kept me interested much of the way despite a few slower scenes. Not a lot of action though, other than the brother fighting in flashbacks, until that epic, well filmed chariot race.

I thought the naval battle was pretty good...watch out for the 3D flaming arrow!
I was surprised to learn that much of the chariot race was done for real. Very well done.

That was an action scene, true, though from his direct point of view, as he was confined to sitting inside the boat rowing as it all went down and staring out of the window to get a glimpse of the battle outside. But yeah, the arrows flying through, the underwater, I can imagine that looked awesome in 3D.

Yep; a pretty horrendous flop. I kind of expected it, to be honest. The marketing for this film, whether it was an artistic masterpiece or utter trash (I don't know as I haven't seen it) was atrocious. I don't think I've seen a single commercial for it on television, and never once did I see a trailer in front of another movie at the theatre.

According to Imdb, it still has a quite a list of release dates. Heck,Japan doesn't't get it til next January.

Glas to hear that...was worried since the movie flopped so badly.

What the %$#@!% is wrong with movie audiences today? First, the best STAR TREK movie we've had in years pulls in the lowest box-office of the current three...during the 50th anniversary yet, for crissakes! And now BEN-HUR flops? I could understand it if it were a bad movie but it's not. (GHOSTBUSTERS, SUICIDE SQUAD, ID: REGURGITATE, etc. etc....are all terrible films but pull in money anyway). Given the movies we've been getting, I'd put BH as one of the better films of the year so far. (And I'm not a religious guy.)

I know some people have said it's too religious, others say it's not religious enough. But it's excellent filmmaking and the chariot race is easily one of the best action sequences I've seen in many years. While I hated the ending, I'd easily recommend this movie to ANYONE that still appreciates the cinematic experience (if any are left).

Obviously, the 3D disc is a day one buy for me.

Had it been native 3-D I would've gone out of my way to see it... native live action 3-D is becoming far too rare these days. But as a conversion, I have little incentive to see it.
