Go to timestamp 25:39. If you can see Orlando Bloom's whole head, it's fine. If you only see half of his head, it's bad.

I watched it after I knew about the framing and it still didn't bother me. The only bit that was really noticeable was just after the fight when Norrington is talking and half his head is missing. Still wasn't an issue as it lasted about a second.

However for those that it does bother this is good news and again shows Disney's commitment to Blu.

Also, should I wish to replace it would I still be able to? I live in the UK but bought the US version (Amazon's BOGOF sale).

Oops, thanks my mistake. And I even went and looked found the framing errors before and still forgot which movie it was.

I used to have a 1x color wheel DLP projector and never saw rainbows except for one specific time, the opening scene of X-men. My mom however sees them all the time on their setup (same projector) but didn't really know what she was seeing. I made the mistake of explaining it to her and now she sees them even more. Some people are just more sensitive than others, like yourself.

Will it be possible for those who imported a US disc to change it for a new one? As for many consumers, for example Europeans, did buy it from Amazon in a BOGOF.

^^ amazon is really good when it comes to things like this. They will probably give you a refund and you can re-order the good disc (they did it for me for Chronos and The Legends of Jazz, I'm sure they will do it for this one too).

I'm quite surprised and impressed. It's relatively minor and people are jumping up and down during most of the affected scenes anyway. If I didn't read about it I probably would have thought it's intentional.

Kudos to Disney for doing this, that's good customer service!

enjoy

When the news broke I think I recalled at that point that I had noticed something *off* when I had watched it. However, right now I'm not sure if that's the case or if my mind is playing tricks. At any rate I will get the corrected disc and I'm glad the *****ing (much of it from concerned HD DVDers ) can now end.

What if you are getting COTBP through the 5 Blu-Ray deal? Can you still send that in as well, or will that have been the corrected version? As of yet, no one has received the winter deal, so I don't know if they'll be sending out old batches or new batches.

My bad for some reason I was thinking POTC: DMC Now I know what everyone is talking about. I thought it was odd when I first watched POTC: COTBC on blu-ray...

Thanks for the timestamp...

It's never bothered me even after knowing what to look for, however I will take advantage of a replacement when offered.

Until pointed out.....and freeze-framed........most of us had no idea there was any kind of issue including all the professional reviewers.

Here's a question.....how will you be able to tell the new version from the old on the store shelves? Some folks may want to keep their mistake version for posterity.....

When DLP first came out I was working at Best Buy, and I used to see them all the time, but I always thought it was a trick of my eyes or mind, as I didn't really know what the whole rainbow thing was about, or that it even existed. Then somebody else was like, "Why do I always see color bars when I walk by the DLP?" Naturally I was like, ME TOO, and then had a light-hearted argument with the people who couldn't see them.

Do you know why some people see it? It's never bothered me enough to find out the science behind it, but I'd be curious to know. If I remember from the little bit I've heard it's something to do with the speed/number of segments on the color wheel.

It's a combination of both, speed of the wheel and how many color segments there are. Then when you see the rainbows comes down to what you are watching. It is mostly high contrast footage and especially if you need to move your focus from one side of the screen to the other or move your head from side to side. Seriously, watch the opening credit screen of X-men, it is the absolute worst case scenario. Bright white sparkly swirly thing moving across black, and then in the corners more start up making you look at different sides of the screen. Let's just say that on a DLP screen, that image is a lot more 'colorful' than on any other screen.

Why some people see it while others don't, who knows. Probably the same reason some people see two faces in profile, while others see a vase, or better yet, those 3D image books where you need to unfocus your eyes to see it. Some people can stare at it for hours and now see the 3D image, others walk up and it is imediate.
