I'll be in the theater for this. Worst case scenario: Another bad Halloween movie. Better scenario: A decent flick with some classic feel to it, and good music. Best case scenario: Carpenter actually enjoys the experience (and not just the check), and works on something more original as producer, writer or director (unlikely I know; he'd miss too many NBA games).

The only silver lining in any of this for me is if JC scores a new Halloween film and writes new pieces for it. Otherwise, hes there in name only.

That's because he basically sat back and let the money roll in. He said so himself in some interview.

Q: Why remake The Fog?

JOHN CARPENTER: Why not? If everybody else is making remakes and they want to pay me money to make a remake of an old movie of mine, why not?

Q: What's your role in this production?

CARPENTER: Well, I am a producer, but I come in and say hello to everybody. Go home. I'm just a f***ing bum, OK?

I'd be fine with Flanagan. He's a great horror director so far. LOVED Oculus. Hush was very solid too. Really well shot. Would still prefer Mitchell or Wingard for this particular project but Flanagan would be my third choice. Definitely not upset about it.

John Carpenter is pretty well known for being fine with sitting back and letting the money flow in. A great director for sure, and I believe he puts a lot into a film when he's behind the camera, but as an executive producer I can't see him caring one way or another about the integrity of the film or whatever as long as it makes him money. Plus, I'm not really a fan of the Blumhouse movies, so this pairing does nothing for me.

And I know someone will say "quit whining," but I'm really not whining. I find this whole thing ho-hum at best and don't believe it could be any worse than the Rob Zombie movies anyway. I'd sum up my reaction to this as shocked malaise: I'm surprised I couldn't care less.

I'll be hopeful. I enjoy all the films in the series, especially Zombies (which I think were fantastic)

The only way to finally do this was to finally scale back the budget, and get Carpenter to come back in some form. Dialing this back to what the first two films were is a smart idea, and could easily put this series back on track. I'd like to see Jamie Lee Curtis return as well...But this is great news, and I'm unbelievably excited about it.

Wingard actually went of a mad Twitter tear today, posting various images from the franchise. It would be cool to have him, and a dream come true to get DRM, as It Follows has already made it in my all-time top 5 horror films. Flanagan is a great choice as well. Is this real life?!!

No need for Curtis to come back. H20 is not one of my favorites at all actually. I'd like a fresh new script, with the good 'ol Carpenter suspense.

I want good movies. Original or franchise, doesn't matter. But I think that Laurie is just as important to the series as Michael. I think it would be good to see her again, or even her son again. They're clearly going for a legacy sequel, so yeah, I'd like to see them use characters that we know or that were familiar to the franchise.

So just another sequel then really. That ignores everything from the last almost 20 years or so?

The series already ignores half itself anyway...There's two distinct timelines with no resolutions on either front. You can either watch the Loomis story, or the Laurie storyline. To me, the Laurie storyline will always be the one that's more compelling. Not Michael being a cult born demon with a psychic connection to Laurie's niece...

Just to clarify, I definitely want Laurie back, just not the older version. Like Walt said, as long as it's good, I'm open to anything. But a legacy sequel is what I prefer, which I believe we will get. There are really so many different ways they can take this, which is good...more room in the sandbox to play.

You actually bring up a good point Walt, it might be better to just leave the character Loomis out, because imo noone can capture what Pleasance portrayed. He was so good as Loomis. Maybe bring in a new "Loomis type" of character that can carry on through future sequels.

A Mike Flanagan-directed Halloween would have the potential to a great movie, especially with Carpenter (who sounds like he's here for more than a paycheck) as executive producer. Adam Wingard would be great too but he's got a full plate right now (he was also offered Fast 8 but passed).

On the other hand, I think David Robert Mitchell would be a terrible choice. The last thing Halloween needs is long shots of people aimlessly driving and having handguns be the weapon of choice to kill the supernatural. Also, trying to tie Halloween with mumblecore would be like how Paul Feig is trying to work post-modern humor into Ghostbusters.

I knew the movie would be sh*t. I feel the same way whenever I see Blumhouse, or BH Tilt. I just automatically know the movie is going to be really bad.
Blumhouse is closer to the modern-day Cannon. They make a lot of genre movies but will branch out into classier fare (such as Whiplash or The Gift).

I hope you're not lumping David Robert Mitchell in with the hideous "mumblecore movement" and giving Wingard a pass.
