It respawns you close to the boss battle but it strips you of all the health and stamina syringes you used in the battle. As i said above, these can take ages to get!

Exactly that! It's so annoying and has turned the game into a real grind as the boss battles are fairly regular.

I rented this game the past few days and played up to chapter 6. I really liked the atmosphere of the game, and the difficulty is just about right. The key is having the right weapon build to make the game a breeze.
I carry a perfect 2 handed mace with additional stun, Rakesh's perfect machete and a perfect liston in the other hand. The perfect liston uses almost no stamina and can fill the blood meter in 4 or 5 swipes. The mace is absolutely devastating. It does massive damage and if the enemy actually can survive 4 hits they're almost always stunned at that point, allowing me to bite them in combat (which refills stamina during the bite) and then I continue pulverizing them. Also i've maxed out my stamina and health as well. I also love the spring attack, as it allows you to travel massive distances in the blink of an eye giving you time to pummel a guy while the other enemies run to you. Boss fights are simple as well. I start most fights with the ultimate Abyss, then while they are being held I tear them up with my mace. Only aggravating thing about boss fights is that almost all of them have some sort of AOE gimmick, either gas, blood explosions, sunlight, etc. Also, I use shotguns only on bosses (swap liston out with shotgun during boss fights), it's been clutch several times. I haven't really used serums other then at one boss fight, but I also think it's cheap where if you use a serum and die that serum is lost. I guess it makes sense as you are resurrecting yourself, not really reloading a previous point in the game. For health i'm constantly using autophage healing. This is another game I played not too long ago and I enjoyed it a lot. Great story, enjoyed the characters lot. This one's VERY narrative driven. Combat's pretty fun too. There aren't a ton of special powers you can use but the one's you can use in the game are incredibly fun to play with. It's nothing game changing or super unique but it works. Which is why my heart bleeds when I play The Sinking City due to that game's clunky combat mechanics.
But Vampyr also is far from perfect. The graphics aren't the best but that is nothing that bothers me. But the game really gets the hiccups pretty often where all of a sudden the game freezes and loads for a few seconds while you're traversing from one point to another. That can get on your nervers very quickly. Aside from that there's really not much one can complain about. The whole concept of having to kill NPCs to make the game easier is really cool, practically removing the traditional 'difficulty setting'. Playing through the game without killing anyone can be both frustrating and rewarding. It almost has a 'Souls-like' type quality to it in that regard. Got the platinum trophy too. I have this....thirst...for...blood... heh |

I remember being on the fence about this but picked it when it was on sale sometime last year & ended up really liking it. Its not perfect & has some flaws but the good outweighed the bad for me. One thing I do with it had was a fast travel system, would've made back tracking so much easier. Hopefully this gets a sequel.

The criticism of the difficulty spikes put me off until it was really cheap digital in the BF sale this year.
I enjoyed it. I didn't find the bosses too bad, and I didn't rely of serums so if I was respawned it didn't seem like a big deal. It finished rather suddenly though and I'm annoyed you can't go back to the city to mop up anything. I don't fancy having to start a new game, but I may do if different choices give enough of a different story? |

Anyway, started a 2nd playthrough. Different choices don't change that much of the story, just what things happen when you rest (like Sean being a rabid Skal if you spare and don't turn him or embrace him). So I got bored and wiped out an entire district just to see what happened then.
![]() I got the Anarchy in the UK achievement, and a smattering of skals and large beasts in the previously inhabited area. But a LOT of XP. |
